“The Roman Catholic Diocese of Helena, Mont., filed for bankruptcy protection on Friday to pave the way for a $15 million settlement of lawsuits alleging clergy members sexually abused 362 children over five decades, according to a diocese spokesman.”

“The lawsuits, originally filed in 2011, claimed that clergy members had abused children from the 1940s to 1980s and that the diocese knew or should have known what was happening.
“It’s widespread … (and) some of the most horrific abuse we’ve dealt with,” Dan Fasy, an attorney with law firm Kosnoff Fasy, which represents 268 of the 362 claimants, told NBC News.”

About time this was stopped - bloody perverts.

Obviousy not just went on in the work houses then.
Few years ago I read a book by a lady who had been abused for years in Ireland by Roman Catholic priests. She was desperately trying to be listened to, but it was all covered up.
There were also unmarked graves in the grounds of the place she was at - again a cover up.
Agree Pete = Perverts!

Can't critcise CRB checks when so many institutions in the past have employed paedos whose only aim seems to have been to get a job / hobby/ vocation with easy access to children
-
Pete - your autocorrect has changed "Disease" to Diocese."
-
Agree with that Andy. My issues with CRB checks were never about having one. I have nothing to hide :)
@Stuart Bloody autocorrect ;)
-
True enough Mr Slacker but the CRB's only work on the ones already caught.
I'm not sure what the CRB check for every agencie a person worked for achieved except to put money in someones pockets
The damage done to peoples lives after the abuse goes on very often for the rest of their lives.
They are sick pervy people!

I have no problem with shareable between agencies CRB checks. Should have been in place years ago.
Just don't agree it being used for a profit based venture by local councils. Cash cows is the term isn't it ?

Agree with the sharing Fy.
