Neil Anderson is to publish another book after the success of his ‘Dirty Stop Out’s Guide to 1980s Chesterfield’.
If you were one of those late night revellers, Neil would like to hear from you - neil@acmretro.com
Or you can read more here - http://bit.ly/1emqEGE (http://bit.ly/1emqEGE)

Had done my dirty stopping out by then, had my daughter to look after
Good times pre - 1975's though ;)
-
I have plenty of Aquarius photo's from the 1970's. They may make interesting viewing! >;
-
Oh gosh gerty I wonder if we were in there at the same time back then.
Apart from weekends, we would go sometimes in the week with friends ( Thursday nights ) as my hubby got complimentary tickets.
Feel sick just thinking about it as we used to roll home about 3am and I used to roll back out of bed at 5am to start work for 6am.
Always felt drunk when I got up but never did when I went to bed :))
OOOOO and everytime I bent down at work my head used to spin :))
-
Ha ha , seems like it then Pam. All that you said applied to me too. We often got in on comp tickets as a friend of ours was bar staff. I need to hunt down those pics so we can have a giggle! :))
-
Haven't got many Gerty we didn't bother much with photo's - only drinking ;D
Here's one - I was always up for a laugh back then (still am ;) )

before any smart ass comments - I am the one in the pink dress not the suit ;)

Glam lady! I had a dress very similar to your red one :) Who was the compere, can you recall?
-
No idea who he was Gerty, I can't even remember why I was up there in the secong photo.!!
The first photo was a line of people up on stage with me, we all had a small zxylophone
I remember watching Bob Monkhouse on one occassion we were there
-
Apart from Jingles and Adam & Eve I didn't drink in town a lot.
Crowd that I hung round with weren't particularly concerned about drink drive laws (even one who was a police cadet). We used to frequent Woodside, Highfield, Olde House, Peacock (Barlow) mainly or go down Brampton (mainly Terminus & Star).
As a student working tax free in the summer I could get 5 pints for my hourly wage, can't even match that now!
-
Adam and Eve! I had my hen party there :))
-
We only ever went into the Adam and Eve once, it was so busy it took ages to get to the bar. Hubbies hair was wet through he was so hot so we drank our drinks straight back and left
Gerty looking forward to your photos when you have time to post them :)
-
given the rise of digital cameras and Facebook etc theres goig to be no point in 30-40 years time writing this kind of book, the evidence/nostalgia is going to be preserved for all to laugh at.
-
Between 1972, when it opened, and 1975 we were regulars at the Aquarius. I look forwards to seeing your photos, Gerty :) x
-
Hi Aitch, hope your well :)
-
Everything is fine, thank you, Fly :)

I wonder if we were ever there on the same night as well then Aitch. Had some good times in there, scampi and chips in a basket - corr we thought we were so posh :)

It might be a while - husband has announced they are in the loft! :(
-
Well, we've waited knocking on 40 years to see them so I guess another month or two won't hurt. :)
.... and, OC, I think there is more than a fair chance we were all there on the same night.
-
Ohh nooo not the dreaded loft.
Keep reminding him Gerty as we have to do with these men ;)

Aah - that's where it allow went downhill! Took my then girlfriend to see The Drifters at the Aquarius (Akker) and planned to propose to her over that obligatory soup - sorry chicken - in a basket.
Bottled it but managed to pluck up the courage to ask her when I dropped her off at her home - she accepted!!
That was in 1976 and we've been happily married for almost 37 years!
-
Aww :-*
Just for the record, I saw the pair of love birds whilst I was driving this afternoon.
I presume they were walking home from town. ;)
-
Awww Alsatian love at the Aqua eh :-*
The first time we went it was packed and we ended up sat on the steps in the aisle to watch the show.
I also remember taking my daughter in the late 70's early 80's (I think) to watch a childrens panto, she always enjoyed it.
Anyone else remember that?
-
Yes, I do. We'd definitely be there at the same time as you for the panto. :)

Yep, we were walking back from town laden with bags of shopping. We were hoping to meet up with a public spirited benevolent taxi driver who would have taken us home at no cost to us. Unfortunately we didn't meet any!!! 8)
-
You're right, I didn't see any either.
I also saw you again closer to your home when I dropped my next customer off in the same area. 2 jobs on the trot in 5 mins lol.
I was going to stop and say hello the second time but your heavy overloaded shopping bags must have made you run down the hill, cos I didn't see you on my way back. ;)

The reason you didn't see us was because I told SWMBO to hurry up or he'll catch us and expect to be invited in for a cuppa!!!
Seriously, if we'd seen you we would have invited you in (and mugged you for your takings whilst you were necking the Earl Grey)!! :o
-
Yes, I do. We'd definitely be there at the same time as you for the panto. :)
Can you remember the Whittington Witch :))
-
I'm not worth mugging :(
No school contracts this week, sod all cash jobs off the ranks. I did one more job after I saw you for the second time.
Would that be about 2.30ish pm
A ten to four I pulled off the rank and drove home.

I promise I will. The loft however, is one of his man-caves. Lots of grunting, harrumphing and swearing goes on up there. There's always hammering , clanking and rather bizarre dragging noises too. I daren't even put my head through the door!

I think it might be time to give my bagged up old clothes to the charity shop. Can't have him being tempted........... >;
-
Think you maybe too late Gerty by the sounds of the grunting, harrumphing :-[

I do know what he's doing actually - he's laying a floor in the loft, hence all the racket and grunting. I'll be glad when he's done!
-
Yes I had guessed some work was being done up there Gerty. ;)
Lofts are dirty dusty places and I'll bet your hubby will be pleased when it's finished as well.
It always kicked my asthma off when I went up there as well as bringing a film of dust down into the bedrooms.
Several years ago we emptied our loft one of the bedrooms was stacked high :-[
Much of it went to charities to sell but the photographs, I sorted through, bought albums ( quite a few) and they are now safely stored in a wardrobe.
I might add it took me 12 months to complete this :-[

Wow, only 12 months, Pam??
You have NO idea of husbands track record for (not) completing jobs *eeek!*

;D At least yours can do it Gerty, mine wouldn't be able to do that :(
I showed him how to use a drill!
That's what happens when you have rich parents who just get trades men in to do work - no learning of DIY from mum or dad!
Mind you he does do some jobs now,. and I can say he will finish asap.
The photograph sorting was back breaking as I generally sorted through them in lounge. Cost an arm and a leg in albums but I did some for daughter as well as us.
These days they are on a memory stick/card.
Have you got one of the photo frames which you put your camera's memory card into - :)

Back on topic ::) does anyone remember Alan Kilby, who was a 'bouncer' at the Adam & Eve? He was deaf and later went on to become a professional wrestler, he was a nice bloke.

I can't remember any of the staff Alsatian as I never had anything to do with them.
what I can remember is taking one of my younger brothers and his girlfriend for their first visit. Despite us telling him he needed to wear a tie he thought he could get in without one.
Hubby and brother ended up having to get a taxi back home for a tie
-
As promised to Old Cruser.....
Aquarius photos..........the first one is me with husband propping the bar up (his favourite place even now). The dress even though it looks like curtain fabric, cost me a small fortune from Fenwicks in Cambridge.
The second photo ....I'm in the middle with shorter hair now. It was a telephone exchange night out - and I'm guessing it must have been someone's hen party.
-
Seen the bottom one before Gerty, yes, the top one does look like you're wearing your grandma's front room curtains LOL
Runs for cover stage right - - - - - - >

Lovely photo's Gerty, I know your face from facebook but your hubby looks familiar, your dress is very pretty. I love prints but they don't suit me.
I like your hair short in the second photo the lady on your right looks familiar as well.
Maybe it's just that we were all there frequently at the same time.
On hen nights I used to love to go into the disco, never off the dance floor.
My hubby wasn't into dancing so never went in when we went together.
Mind you I was the same at any parties and never sat down, as long as hubby kept filing my glass I didn't care. ;)

I just cracked up at Woolly Bully! Everyone used to fly on to the dance floor for that one didn't they? I was always knackered when it finished!
Yes, I guess we probably were there around the same time. I used to love the disco too but the carpet stuck to your shoes, do you remember?
The girls I'm with were friends from work at the Telephone Exchange. The one on my right is Lynn Hooper who has a twin sister Erica.
-
Never danced in my shoes always kicked them off before I went onto the dance floor just loved the woolly Bully.
The only time I ever left my shoes on was many years later ( I struggled to finish the dance lol ) and one of my shoes flew off and skidded across a table knocking a glass of beer off the end :-[ Luckily I knew the chap whoes beer it had been - still pee myself when I think of that incident
Can't say I know the name of your friend maybe she has a double lurking around
-
Absolutely agree - you couldn't possibly do the Woolly Bully with shoes on. That's funny about the perfect aim at that guy's beer! :))
