Interesting story on the DT's front page today - apparently it's costing the tax payer £1m to fund officers who are suffering from stress.
Seems a lot to me - did these folks think it was a stressless job when they joined?
I would have thought that the Prime Minister's job was one of the most stressful in the country, but I can't remember any PM having time off for stress.
Or am I missing something?

No - the P.M's just have long holidays ::)
Many jobs are stressful, it's one of the reasons the UK is short of Social Workers.
Teachers, hospital staff, understaffed shop workers --- me ----- and so it goes on

Workplace stress is not a joking matter. I've had to pick up the pieces after my O/H has returned from work distraught on several occasions.

It's not a laughing matter and I wasn't joking when I included myself.
Regulares will know that my daughter is disabled. This was due to a head trauma at 17yrs old. She was acamedically bright and a brilliant mathematician had a good future in front of her.
My knowledge of disabilities as well as from looking after my daughter comes from volunteering for mencap and giving respite to families with profoundly disabled children from the very autistic to t children who need moving/ handling and gastrostomy feeding - these parents suffer lots of stress on a daily basis.
When I fell and injured my back 18 months ago I was actually helping a family out by looking after a profoundly disabled child for 4 nights. I felt very sad that the child had to be returned to family sooner than they expected.
My other work for many years which I don't speak of has been fostering.
This has brought a host of different professionals through our door. It's open house here.
Looking after the children after trauma of being taken into care and what has gone before is 24/7.
Extremely hard work.
I wouldn't have changed it though and still keep in touch with many of my looked after children who are now in their 20's
So please don't anyone tell me about how stressed the Police or anyone else gets in their work place.
Many work places are stressful as Dave points out and mocking isn't right, without the police it would be a free for all and they do a valuable job but so do many others
We make a choice - if we can't stand the heat in the kitchen - get out is the saying.
