Title: Coronation party Horns Hotel 1952
Post by: Gerty Gumdrop on March 01, 2014, 08:10:30 PM
I'm on this pic, though you can hardly see me.  I submitted it to the DT back in 1987 and they published it with a ringed indicator round my mum.

The kids and parents on here are all from Central Terrace, Lordsmill Street and lower end of Derby Road.  There may have been a few from Hasland as well.

I can name some but not all.  So if you knew the families Dowson, Bedford, Binns, Parker, Carnell and Rhodes some of their kids are on there.

I think it is where the roundabout is at the start of Derby Road.

Didn't the Queen take the throne in 52, but was officially coronated in 53.
Perhaps it's just for want of a word.

I have an inside pic of The Horns Hotel NicheUK. Here you go.......

This lovely group of people were in The Horns Hotel, Lordsmill Street. It was taken late 40's or early 50's. Lady far left is my Nan Clara. I don't know the three sitting next to her. Then far right is Hilda Redfern (might be Redfearn) and below her is her husband Jim. They kept the sweet shop just along from The Horns. Lady with her arm round Jim is Mabel Bollans, landlady of The Horns. Her husband was Norman Bollans.

There's a few notable features on the photo such as the ashtrays, Capstan and Woodbines, together with the Magnet Pale Ale sign. I think the mosaic floor is really interesting as are the wall tiles which I recall were cream and green.
