Title: Arkwright Solar Farm Public Exhibition
Post by: Gerty Gumdrop on March 16, 2014, 08:41:43 PM
We had a letter arrive yesterday from a company called RES UK & Ireland, based in Hertfordshire.  The letter was dated 14th March 2014 and it was inviting us to the Arkwright Solar Farm Public Exhibition.  Nothing unusual in that you may think, except according to the letter the date of the exhibition is Tuesday 24th February 2014!

Now, according to the calendar, for the 24th February to be on a Tuesday it will actually be NEXT year.

This isn't boding well, and I can only imagine that the amount of complaints they've had about this inaccurate information must be reaching the hundreds if not thousands by now.

I'm not sure of the exact distribution area for this letter but it will certainly be all of Inkersall, Arkwright, and Duckmanton.  Fly, have you had one at Boza?

This is a cock-up that will cost a small fortune to put right

No I haven't Gerty. Boza has it's own council. Not sure if this makes a difference.

I emailed the company yesterday to outline the administration error and got a prompt reply back this morning apologising for the 'misprint'.

The meeting and exhibition will be on Monday 24th March at Duckmanton Primary School up to 7pm.

Sorry to bang on about it, but if the company employ people who aren't interested or capable of checking their information before it goes out, I'm rather worried about what they are proposing in terms of this Solar Farm.   :(

I know what solar panels are - but what's a solar farm?

An unsightly field full of them I presume. Am I right Gerty ?

I'm assuming the same as you Fly.  I'll know more after next week.

I've seen something on TV that I believe was a solar farm and it was a field full of solar panels very low to the ground so I can only think its something like that.

Next question - wht do they want them near to the ground, what are they cultivating?
Don't personally think they look to smart on buildings

Apparently so, Fly.  I don't know much at all at the minute.

Pam,I don't think anything is cultivated.  As far as I know it will just a mass of solar panels  :-?

There's a posting on t'other forum about this.  K4Blades seems to know a fair bit and is saying that its likely to be the kind tht is low to the ground.

Dicing with death Gerty mentioning the unmentionable  :))
Does anyone know yet what will be the purpose of it apart from big fat sun tanned worms

All it will be is rows of walls of solar? panels at ground level.
There's 2 rows of them at the side of the pig farm. Bottom of Bolsover Hill

Down side is it might be ugly to look at a farm, 'field full', of them.
No harm to people, unlike fracking, and also no benefit to the people who have to see them.
Me personally, put a wind turbine at the bottom of our garden. Sad thing, it wouldn't benefit me. Waste of time.
Any energy is piled back into the grid. Customers are then charged for that energy.

I've informed the other forum where the small solar farm is at Bolsover.
Apparently it's location wasn't known.   ;)

There's no hope for me either  ;D  Apart from listening to Radio 4.

My philosophy has always been to age gracefully, and grow old DISgracefully.   >;
