High Wood in the Somme region of France. The scene of utter devastation during the First world War now a beautiful bluebell wood. RIP guys.

So many locations in that area were once the scene of unspeakable horror. After Belsen, the Thiepval Memorial is the most moving place I've been to. Over 72,000 names of the dead there, a very humbling place to visit.

I agree BD Thiepval is most impressive and a very moving sight. Almost certainly there are guys still lying in High Wood who are named on Thiepval. For me though it is the tiny battlefield cemeteries, off the beaten track and surrounded by farmers fields which are the most poignant, especially this one as my Great Uncle lies there.
