Some of my fondest memories are not of me when I was a child but when I was a teenager in the 1960s. My favourite has to be the start of rock festivals (unheard of before) like the Isle of Wight Festivals 1969 and 1970.

Blimey, The Vic was my stompin ground from 1963 to 1967. Anyone who was anyone pitched up there at some point. Dave Berry was a regular, The Moody Blues, Small Faces, Merseybeats for example. I even saw Bill Haley and The Comets there around 1968.
Happy days ;D

I went to a music event in town when I was perhaps 7 or 8
Back in the days when tours consisted of several artists on the bill playing a few songs
Neither myself nor my parents can remember who was on
Bugger

1st act I saw at City Hall was c1973, Roxy Music with little known Leo Sayer in support
Biggest names I've seen live: Rolling Stones (Stafford 1976), Who (Sheff Arena late 90s)

Not at all Fly - it's all memory lane stuff anyway, good idea in splitting it though as lots of memories there for most of us.

I took my brother to see Gary Glitter in sheffield the girl next to me fainted :o so I attended to her until first aid arrived. She was on the same 'milk train' as us going home and gave me a box of chocies (bless)
I was into the Beatles, animals, Kinks, yardbirds ohhh could go on and on the 60's was a brill time to be a teenager. I did get to see some of them in chessy/sheffield as well. :)
-
You're all a bunch of oldies......
If I remember correctly, my first concert was to see Toyah at the City Hall, (saw her a few times), though I saw that many acts in the 80s, not sure now. I was a bit into punk and electro-pop sort of stuff.
Biggest act I've seen? Madonna a couple of times, once in the 80s when she was just another pop star, and more recently spent £300 to see her in Manchester.
Best all round performance, Peter Gabriel, gresat music but visually stunning too.
Bands I wish I'd seen, Queen with Freddie of course, Michael Jackson, would love to see Bowie live, and Prince.
-
Yep I am an oldie and my memories will be differnt artists to you but enjoy reading your post as it brings back memories of artist I had forgotton about ---- Madonna --- whooooo she had a 'bit of a reputation at one time, but very popular wasn't she.
I know of punk - but what is electro-pop?
Seeeee --- I am old!!! ;)

Rod stewart was and still is one of my favourites --- some of his stuff is a raunchy if you listen to the words to nights the night is very ermmm ----- but i enjoy it!

Dave McPhie
Don't you mean Jock Macpie?
that's what we used to call him. Kept the music shop at the end of Newbold Rod.
Used to manage Shape of the Rain and Harry Greibson String Band.
-
I always called him Dave from when he worked for Hudsons in the Market Hall on the singles counter.
Met him recently at a friend's funeral. Doesn't change one bit.
He also played drums for the Blueberries, in fact I bought their single, Its Gonna Work Out Fine, from him in Hudsons back in 1965.
He then went on to start Some Kinda Mushroom where I bought my albums for many years. If I remember correctly he sold it on to Stuart Smith who now owns Zebra next to the Winding Wheel.

Is he the guy with the bookshop at Bakewell that sells a bit of music, only stuff he considers good like in the book / film Hi Fidelity?

I remember him getting married in an all white suit. I knew the girl he married too but can't for the life of me recall her name!

Of course! Thanks for that - I'd completely forgotten her name. Interesting about the bookshop at Hassop. I used to visit there a lot but never recognised her.
The station bookshop has changed quite a bit now and is more of a tea room. I might start a new thread about decent places to visit for a cuppa :-\
