Title: I'm not happy with the RSPCA !!
Post by: Fly on May 20, 2014, 06:21:19 PM
Friday afternoon Our_Lass and the guy from the E-fag shop were bemused by pigeons sitting above the E-fag shop looking wantingly at the newly boarded up (no access to pigeons) Games Workshop next door. Took this today, the pigeons were clinging on above the gold letter M.

Yesterday when I got to town Our_Lass informed me she had phoned the RSPCA, there was a pigeon behind the black boarding, how they had managed to board it in was beyond me. That meant it had been there all weekend. That's what the pigeons were looking at last friday, probably one of their chicks  :'( Not sure if Games Workshop had been open over the weekend. It wasn't open yesterday.
Went about our day hoping something would be sorted.

Got to town today, Our_Lass's quite distressed. Nothing had been done, there was still a bird behind the boarding.
So I called the RSPCA, told them the problem, mentioned that my wife had phoned yesterday and nothing had been done. The lady informed me they were very busy yesterday and had had over 4000 calls. Some one will be out soon.
I then phoned Games Workshop from a number I'd accessed from Google. The shop was still shut. Informed them of the problem and told them about the call to the RSPCA.
3 hours later, there was still no signs of anything being done, so I called the Derbyshire Times news desk and explained it all to the nice lady.  She told me she would ring the RSPCA and ask what has been, or is being done, and if it's nothing, why ?
She phoned me back 2 hours later.

(http://i1057.photobucket.com/albums/t382/Barry_Fly/20140520_340_zpsa12bc5e9.jpg) (http://s1057.photobucket.com/user/Barry_Fly/media/20140520_340_zpsa12bc5e9.jpg.html)

The RSPCA had phoned her back and told her they had visited the site(apparently), but couldn't get access???
So they've contacted Games Workshop and told them they must get the boarding removed ASAP. Games Workshop replied that they would probably be able to do that this afternoon, or in the morning. I told the lady at the DT that I was fearing the worse as the bird was very quiet as I left town. Told  her I would phone her tomorrow with the outcome.

Earlier in the day a young PC was walking past the rank so we collared him, he just stood there shaking his head saying there was nothing he could do. I mentioned getting a ladder and ripping a board out, he told me I'd probably end up with criminal damage charge  ::)

Sorry for the long post, but a bit peeved  :-X

What a horrible death for the bird.
I still think of the bird which got trapped and died in the bird feeder I bought from Wilco's.
Hope this has a happy ending but we may never know  :(

The RSPCA should be ashamed. As should the idiot that boarded up the poor thing.

Our_Lass thought it might have been a chick that had hatched over the weekend. Sorry, not, too much noise.
I reckon a baby pigeon, couple of weeks old maybe. Makes me feel ashamed for not doing more, but what  :(

Cruel maybe, but the animal kingdom just get on with it don't they?
Monday,Sunday - it makes no difference to them.
We now have a second set of births in the same fir ( blackbird) tree this spring/summer. Mother is at nearly face height on our tree & doesn't mind me looking at her. Four chicks first time round - don't know how many eggs she's laid this time. Even our cat seems to be happy around them. Apparently, they will use the same nest time & again.
I don't know how many of the chicks survived from the first batch - I've only seen one in my garden.
Rest assured they'll get on with it as normal, whilst we chunter on about other stuff.Politics,etc....
I'm like anyone else - if I can save a distressed animal I will, but there is only so much that you can do - & I'm sure you both did your best - what more could you do?

2nd lot of blackbird eggs are in the nest. The dogs stand on guard so had to fence the bush off

One of the first lot about to make its maiden flight

RSPCA did indead visit the shop Tuesday afternoon, but stated to the e-fag shop worker, if they ripped out the boxing they might be held responsible for criminal damage. So the RSPCA stood outside and phoned Games Workshop head office and told them to visit the site and remove the boarding ASAP.
I think by then, the pigeon chick had already shuffled up it's mortal coil

AFAIK, no one has been anywhere near from Game Workshop. If there was a pigeon chick in there, it's now dead.
I've phoned the nice lady at the DT again today, and updated her with the latest news.
She didn't seem to happy that there isn't a good outcome to this.
As Scimitar said, how much am I supposed to do ??

Like the pic of the blackbird chick Andy.

You did your best Fly, it's obvious you are a very caring person.
Try and put it out of your mind if you can x

Our_Lass won't let this drop.
She's been into the DT building and spoke to the lady I had spoken to on the phone previously.
Hopefully, the DT are going to run this until the people responsible are brought to task.

Did someone from the DT actually see this happen?

Birds are pretty dim creatures - I once returned home after a few days away and heard a noise from a vase on the landing window sill - then it moved...! When I looked inside, I saw a starling looking up at me; it had fallen down a chimney into a bedroom, flown around and around, sat on the lip of the vase and slipped inside. A great example of a 'bird brain'.

No OC, it's what Games Workshop told the RSPCA, who in turn phoned the DT, who in turn phoned Our_Lass back.

Have noticed the boarding has/could have been moved recently. There's a slight difference to the middle part from my last shot.

I'm pretty sure this wasn't done before we went away, so there's no way a pigeon flew out of there.
Still waiting to hear from the DT about when the Games people apparently did this.

This won't happen again.
I'll get a crowbar out or whatever and risk prosecution for criminal damage next time I hear or see a sick animal.
The RSPCA are so limited in what they can do, it's unbelievable.

Just for the record, the guy who works in the shop, was not at work while all this was going off.
Bit irrelevant, it's not his shop, he just works there. Someone else was covering his position.
But, we'd always had a chat and a natter. When I questioned him about this matter last week, he all but blanked me.
I think he's been told by his peers to play thick. You know nothing.

mmm so why the silence if they have nothing to hide?

Sorry Fly I just think you have been fobbed off  >:(

Me too. We think The Games Workshop sent someone out one night to remove any dead birds.
RSPCA and the DT can't argue the fact. TGW said a pigeon flew away.
If that's the case, who boxed the pigeon in, what excuse do they have !!

Sorry Fly but the 'A Pigeon flew away ' doesn't ring true to me. It's just to placate you.
