I have a number of very old photographs of my ancestors as well as letters and official documents from WW1
I can take copies and laminate them to hand down to a younger generation ( if anyone wants them).
What about the originals, is there anywhere I can donate them where they will be kept safe?

If your relatives were from this area it's possible either chesterfield museum or the county council archivists would take them

Consider also the local studies department of the Chesterfield Library. There, they would be more accessible than at Matlock, or in a museum that is sadly closed half the week.

Ok thanks must admit I never thought about the Chesterfield Library.
I just didn't want to pass them on to somewhere which may close as they are part of our history.

I think the library would be your best bet - it is certainly where I'd deposit any of my football stuff, when the time comes.

yes is would be sad to just let it get thrown away.
I don't know of any of our younger family members who would want them and anyway I think they should be shared with others outside of the family.
Your footie stuff will be a good collection to pass on the the library

I lake to think family heirlooms get passed on through the generations. Museum is the next best thing though
