Sat outside a special school for kids with autism in Nottingham the other year, listening to a local radio presenter talking about this terrible illness that children can get, and the problems they may suffer.
After receiving one very angry serious text message explaining that you are born with autism if you 'are' autistic, it's not something you 'get', and it isn't infectious, the presenter made a public apology on air for his lack of understanding autism.
Clearly shows that most politicians don't know jack sh*t about it too >:(

Typical! Only interested in themselves and what they can get.
It's very often the same when a 'real life' situation needs looking at, hardly any of them turn up.
It's obviously not considered important enough for them to bother with.
Try living with an autistic child 24x7.
Depending where they are on the scale they can be hard work and quite complex to understand at times.
I speak from experience from the lower to top end of the scale.
The politicians should be ashamed. >:( -
It's time they took more notice of what is going on in the UK and kept their noses out of other countries business

Without wishing to appear that I'm being nice to politicians:
This was a Private Members Bill presented on the 17th July at 3.30.
It stands zero chance of becoming law it's merely a chance for a back bench MP to raise a metter close to their hearts.
At the same time there was a debate going on in Westminster Hall and various general and select committee meetings.
Obviously those with ministerial responsibilities would be elsewhere as would their shadow counterparts.
There would also be othe MP's dealing with constituency works.
So the chances of there being more than a handful of MP's there were pretty low.
Finally MP's haven't been responsible for debating and setting their own pay since 2011 so if that genuinely is a picture of said debate it's 3 years old!!

On the other hand, local councillors' allowance levels are recommendations from independent remuneration panels and can be accepted (usually when a raise is recommended) or rejected (when no raise is recommended) so councils up and down the country have different levels of allowance for doing the same job. Some of the highest (I haven't checked recently, they may be the highest) basic and special responsibility allowances are in Derbyshire - why is that?

If they are recommendations from an independent remuneration panel, why wouldn't they take all they get? They have not fixed it themselves, it's set by an independent remuneration panel? Certainly Labour councelors, they are probably not very well off in the first place.
