Title: BBC1s The Village
Post by: Engine Driver on August 30, 2014, 12:11:38 AM
Hi, does anyone watch The Village on BBC 1?
I like a period drama, and I have got quite into this series. It is set at the moment in the 1920's
I have watched it from the begining of the first series, but just recently I have started noticeing some glaring errors............. for example, Upvc double glazed windows and doors, chrome letter boxes, masses of telephone cables strung between the houses, modern lamp posts, dropped curbs, repaired tarmac pavements :o and the railway scenes at the station are so bad it beggars belief :-[ they have even got computer generated trains and they can't even get that right, last weeks one featured a steam loco stood in the station, all ok so far except that it was an American train! :)) I thought the Beeb were better than this, they usually make sure everything in the background is as far as possible in context, but they have failed with this one. That said though I still like the story and it's added something else to look for now :)) :))

Another one I recall being filmed in Derbyshire was DH Lawrence's The Rainbow and I believe the people of Carr Vale were compensated for removing their aerials for the external shots

I started watching it and enjoyed the first episode but found it 'slow' after that, didn't bother last week.
However I will put it on this week to have a deco at your findings  ;)

We watched most of the first series but gave up before the end. It seemed to be full of unrelenting misery and pain - not my idea of good entertainment. I don't want to feel sad every Sunday evening - even the presence of two good actors didn't make up for the overall mood of the story.

This is 2nd series having moved on a few years so needs to be taken in context

Last nights episode contained more telelphone wires and dropped curbs and a telephone pole near the farm in the hills, which hasn't even got electricity at this time!

Good fun though :)) :))

I watched episode one of series two last night and really enjoyed it - it seemed very different to series one.

The guy who played Lord Kilmartin reminded me of someone I know...  :))
