Title: Avro Lancaster Bombers
Post by: Scimitar on September 18, 2014, 07:18:22 PM
The last two remaining airworthy Lancaster bombers (one of which has flown here from Canada) are due to fly from Coningsby to Derwent Dams on sunday. Weather permitting I guess. They are due at the Dams at 16.45.
I don't know if they'll fly over Chesterfield on their way, but I'm sure you'll hear them if they do. Eight 12 cylinder Merlin engines aren't that quiet!!
This gave me goosebumps. Watch it all the way through. Its the Dambuster Squadron (617) theme played at Lincoln Cathedral with a perfectly timed flyover of the British surviving Lancaster.
Turn it up & break out the tissues!

It was good last year when they flew over the dams, lancaster, spitfire and a 2 GR4'S if i went to this id feel cheated with less aircraft  :)

Id set off early though if going, parking will be a nightmare and mass traffic jams  ;)

Would love to see the vulcan fly over the dams but cant see that happening at all.

I wonder where they will go after the dams, down the valley, past curbar, chatsworth etc?

Sorry, coming across from Southport

Looking at Google maps its about 75 miles.  They are due to flyover Southport and 3pm and Derwent at 4.15.

They must be going elsewhere first and at a guess a little North so they can approach from the right end of the dam.

Just having a break for lunch here as we are tidying the garden before winter is upon us.
Every time we hear an aircraft we look up and say - well that's not it  ::)
Just our luck for it to come this way and we are eating lunch

Thumper & Vera should be over Derwent Dams at 16.15, Chatsworth House at 16.20, then heads back to RAF Coningsby, and is due over J29 of M1 at 16.30.
So hopefully we will see them. :)

Seen them!
Just flew over our village, from Ashover/Wingerworth area heading towards North Wingfield.

We had just gone in doors locking both back and front outer doors when we heard them - dashed ouside but no time to get camera's focused onto them.

Bugger!!

Amateurs! lol, its not like you didnt know they were coming, saw them out of the window, looks like they flew right above ashover rock on way to j29.

Looks like one or two were waiting on the rock  :)

Thats roughly where I saw them in the distance from Calow. BBMF website wasn't too clear on route between Chatsworth House & J29 M1 but I knew they wouldn't be too far away.
In the event, they WERE too far away for my liking!
Never mind :)

Nice ones Simon  (y)
We contemplated having a drive out, but visited my mum instead.
She's been in hosp recently and still a bit ropey  :(

Might have been a good job, it was rammed and gridlocked trying to get out towards Bamford.  Luckily my mum knew a quieter route.
