Now bear in mind, if he raped the woman or not, he was convicted and sent to prison. He did not serve his full sentence.
Personally Im all for rehabilitation but Im against someone wanting to get back to a profession (in this case) as a footballer and in the public eye.
-
I would say that the best he can hope for within his chosen profession is either to become a football coach or scout. I can't see him playing football again for sure at any level professionally.
Other less in the public eye offenders may well get assistance in returning to their previous trades.
-
He should not play football again full stop what are Sheffield United thinking?
-
I find it difficult to be objective about this given that his chief defender is Gordon Taylor of the Professional Footballers Association who would seek to have one of his own members banned for biting a fellow player but wants to see a rapist re-habilitated into the game. Good job he didn't rape a fellow footballer then.
Question on most job application forms: Do you have a criminal record? How would you feel if a company where a female relative worked decided they were going to forgive and forget and employ a convicted rapist?
-
How many employers do not ask for a CRB check these days I wonder?

Even Nigel Clough didn't know what was going on-on the interview I saw. So who knows - surely he's not playing again >:(

Just caught the tail end of a question time discussion on the matter. One of the panelists pointed out that he will have to go on the sex offenders register. As such he can't have any contact with junior players at the club, can't do pr work at schools or youth centres etc etc.
-
He was convicted and sent to prison.
I know of a recent case (I've seen transcript of the appeal) where someone was accused of rape. Suspended from his job before the trial as he worked with the public. Sent to prison on the the world of the woman, flimsy evidence. Released after a year because better look at evidence proved she had lied.
Some women lie because they have got drunk and had sex with someone and are worried that their partner will find out.
Not saying that this is the case but Evans maintains his innocence. He would have more public sympathy if he showed remorse but he believes he isn't guilty.
-
Always difficult isn't it. This man probably feels he has nothing to feel guilty about - he says he didn't do it, so why should he feel guilty. On the other hand - he 'could' have done this and refuses to acknowledge he's done wrong. Anyone who thinks this way is possibly going to do it again. Only two people know the truth.
If he's innocent then his life may have been ruined by someone who tells lies.
If he's guilty then he should be kept away from the public eye - as in playing football, where he may well be idolised by many youngsters who may then decide it's 'OK' to rape someone.
JR mentioned the player who bit another player. Just to highlight the idolization of fans and what can happen this is a true account where a 9 year old was out playing with other children and bit a younger child - an argument began between parents of the two children as tempers flared.
When questioned as to exactly what happened and 'why' he bit the other child the parents were told well the footballer bites - so obviously to the child that made it OK!
-
Slacker. Fine let him sit on the sidelines (literally in his case!) until the law has run its course. If on appeal he's deemed innocent he can resume his career

I've just read that Jessica Ennis-Hill wants name removed from Bramall Lane stand if Blades sign Evans
"Olympic Heptathlon Champion Jessica Ennis-Hill will ask Sheffield United to remove her name from the stand at Bramall Lane if Ched Evans if offered a contract with the club, according to reports."

Jessica Ennis-Hill has had threats on Tweeter about her comments regarding her request to remove her name from the ground some sick people about.
-
Isn't Jessica allowed her opinions. Yes, there's some sick people, or keyboard warriors !!
I've just got my latest CRB check back.
I'll take this into the Council Building and have my records updated.
What would they do if they found I'd been convicted of rape 2 1/2 years ago though.
One for you Slacker, would I get my badge in Feb based on my latest CRB check ??

"Jessica Ennis-Hill receives rape threats over Ched Evans stance
South Yorkshire police investigate abusive tweets after Olympic medallist urges Sheffield United not to take back convicted rapist"
Typical sympathy for the criminal not the victim.

You are probably aware of the wrongful conviction I refer to earlier of which I cannot discuss any detail

One United fan summed their attitude up on Look North. She said
"We want him back, we need a striker"
Seems like she doesnt care about the victim or anything else, as long as he scores goals. Pathetic.
