I was looking through some old photos today, saw this and noticed the date was 27th December 1911 - exactly 103 years ago today. It's the funeral at Spital Cemetry of five children who died in a tragic accident when their costumes caught fire at the Palace Theatre.
A sad day for Chesterfield.

It's good that these photo's are around for us to look at. A piece of our Towns history to be shared and think about.
What a sad day that was :(

I remember reading about it. My grandparents on my mother's side would have been teenagers in chesterfield then.

Very sad picture and those were the days when everyone dressed in black and heads bowed to honour and mourn the deceased.
