Title: Tesco's to close some stores
Post by: Old Cruser on January 08, 2015, 07:51:22 PM
How the mighty have fallen!
Tesco's will close 43 unprofitable stores (Tesco Express )

The firm is also shelving plans to open a further 49 new "very large" stores.

Additionally, Tesco is closing its staff pension scheme, will make cuts of £250m, and reduce overheads by 30%.
This is going to be a bit of a bombshell for the staff as well

Tesco also confirmed that two of its businesses - Tesco Broadband and online entertainment service Blinkbox movies, will be sold to TalkTalk

I wonder if we have any around Chesterfield area which they will close down.

Heard  a bit about this earlier, but the facebook link on my phone was acting up.
I didn't think they could close a pension scheme due to the number of workers over a set limit though.

The main reason has nothing to do with Aldi and everything to do with diversifying far too far from their core business and expanding into foreign markets where they didnt really understand the cultures surrounding shopping.
Aldi is the supermarket equivalent of Primark. It's easy to offer cheap goods at cheaper prices when you have no moral issues with where those goods come from and how much the workers get paid to produce them.
Or put another way ask yourself this.
Which of the big 4 supermarkets are preceived to be the most expensive?
Now ask which one is the biggest seller of Fairtrade products in the world?
Which one sells zero battery farmed Chickens or eggs (regardless of which comes first!).
Which one sells the more responsibly sourced meat and Fish?
Which one sends no foodwaste to landfill?
Which one donated 10,000 turkeys and 4 tonnes of vegetables to help feed the homeless at Christmas?
Which one raised £500k for the British Legion by selling special chocolate bars?
Which one will help raise £20m for comic relief in a few weeks time?
Being cheap is the easy bit!!
