Post by: Umpire on January 29, 2015, 08:31:12 PM

I live quite near to Clay Cross and we have had snow but I don't think it's been as much as other areas.
See the photo's on the Bolsover Hill challenge thread by Fly

Was snowing in Bolsover this morning when I left, then I went to a snowy Holmewood then onto ClayX, which was clear.
I then went to Derby which was also clear. On return, I hit the snow at The Royal Oak, top of Derby Rd, and struggled to get back into town. I parked up on Storforth Lane for 10mins before I got a call to go back to Derby. It took me 20 minutes to get back to the Royal Oak roundabout. ClayX was still clear, and all the way back to Derby.
Don't ask about the journey back !!

Think it started snowing heavy around 11.00am ish.
We walked down to daughters and were like two snow people when we got there - she only lives at the bottom of our street!

The OH has been to fat fighters tonight. A woman turned up from Pilsley who said they've had next to nothing there

Car in the hedge bottom facing the wrong way. Just down from the Hunloke Arms(Wingerworth). Yes it was that bad.

Just been chatting to my friend and she tells me they had heavy snow in Clay Cross but when the sun came out it melted a lot of it.
We just managed to get our lunch date in nicely yesterday  ;)

Where I am it looks part of Alaska, it snowing yet now very strange how one area gets hit more than other? Read in the news we had a earthquake in our area.

I heard about the earthquake it was felt for miles around apparently.
For tonight - snow in some areas - with thunder!
Strange weather

I think nicheuk the last big tsunami is a good indication of what is happening to our planet - I reckon we can expect big changes to out weather all over the planet to continue

Hence the lean to organic produce - but it is very often more expensive than the alternative - comes down to money I suppose.
Back in the time of the Wingerworth Avenue Coking Plant I remember the orange foul smelling smoke/gas which sometimes wafted across our village - was it harmful?
I have no idea but it makes me wonder sometimes what harm it may have caused to humans in our village.

My first job was in the offices there down Mill Lane in 1958 and I am still here so lets hope people in the neighbourhood were not affected.

@ umpire - so you will remember the yellow smoke/gas with the horrible smell then?
It may well have been harmless?
Have no idea what it was?
A lot of cancers around though - but that may just be the way the human race is going at the moment!
