Now the hotel has closed, what would you suggest it could be used for? Or should it be demolished?
Could it be used for student accommodation, being close to the college?
-
I would like to see it stay as a hotel, surely it has potential?
The Royal York Hotel, next to the railway station which we use is run by PH Hotels.
It's quite old and obviously needs new under floor piping ( remember the leak in our bedroom ) this is being done early this year.
I hope that someone such as this company will come along and revamp the C.H. whilst keeping it's character.

If it was a viable proposition as a hotel I'd have thought the owners could have found a buyer rather than shutting the doors. Mothballing the place can't be good in terms of long term maintenance plus you'd assume they had a reasonably full diary of weddings etc. Like I said on the other thread its location doesn't lend itself to development. I wonder if it will get flattened and the land used for car parking

Sounds like we have another Co-op building on our hands. Don't want to lose it - but don't know what to do with it. :(

Speaking of which, I overheard part of a conversation re- Co-Op in Chesterfield last week.
Keep eyes and ears open folks?? :-X

Someone interested OC?
-
Didn't hear all the conversation Pete so best if we just sit back and wait and see
-
As I've mentioned on here before, the Co-op has structural problems and the basement departments were eventually closed as they flood every time it rains hard.
-
Like Pete says, the former Co-op on Elder way has too many problems beneath floor level. If no-one takes it on & remedies these problems, which will cost someone a small fortune, it will only get worse. If it's left derelict indefinitely what chance has the council to do but demolish it before it becomes a public danger?
As for the Chesterfield Hotel - I can't see anyone taking that over either, unless it's converted into flats. Architects & Builders do this all the time & it would be close to the canal basin regeneration project - who knows?

Student accommodation or even part of the college. Can,t see it being viable as hotel any more, the only guests would come from rail travellers, as it is not easy to get to, once on the by-pass.
Just don,t mention DEMOLITION, council like that word, they seem to approve of pulling anything down that is part of Chesterfields history.
-
I don't think the college attracts the type of student that need accommodation. They all tend to be locals.
If I am allowed to mention 'another place' it's ironic that I told Henri that his save the leisure centre campaign was fighting on too many fronts (save Qpsc, save the annexe and stop the college involvement) and they should have concentrated on just one (the annexe). Given the sites proximity to the college and the town centre it would have made the ideal site to build a new centre on. And yes I know that would mean knocking it down and losing the heritage but rather that than it go to rack and ruin

Iv got an idea for the Chesterfield Hotel why turn it into Chesterfields first gay hotel it will be camp as Christmas and a pink heaven of luxury. :) the staff dressed only in boxers showing off their six packs , could even hold swingers nights plenty of bedrooms for action. Just need to win the lottery for this idea to come true fingers crossed . ;)
If they did that they would want a manager?
You up for that nicheuk ;) ?
Just want to come and see you in you boxers and 3 pack - that's all :-*
-
Of course I would have to be the manager someone got to keep an eye on the boys >; See me in just my boxers you wouldn't be able keep your hands off me. :D
err scuse me your gay :-? -
-
I know , what would you husband think!
Welllll seeing as it would be totally out of character for me to behave like with anyone, he would probably cart me off to the GP for a check up to see if I was of sane mind ;)
A laugh and a joke is part of who I am, but that's it. O:-)
-
unless a bit of whisky was in you........
Whisky -- yuk! Never touch the stuff.
Got drunk on it at 16 :-[ the smell makes me feel sicky now.
Don't really drink that much either - never get drunk O:-)
Will leave that to others.
I can have a good time without booze :P
Anyway beck to the hotel - has it a for sale sign up ?
-
Why are you thinking of buying it ? , could call it Cruser Heights.
Nope.
Never fancies being a hotelier or pub landlord - not my thing, although I love staying in the old hotels
-
You so missed out, the fights, drunkenness, windows out sessions, clear up the toilets after a Saturday night traditional throw ups.
Charming! Not !
As I said, not my thing. I hate being around anyone who is loud and drunk - as for sick - :-? ======================
Exit old cruser - fast -- ;) =========================================
