Looks like a new cycle store is opening soon at the old CMC site. Opposite the Sommerset Arms.
I've had a google around but can't find anything. Not seen any planning applications in the DT.
Anybody, pics to follow when I get the chance.

The cars are still there for sale. The new fascia signage is deffo there too.
Saw it on the way to hospital yesterday, hence no camera. Other things on my mind ;)

There were restrictions put on T**** when they built the monstrosity as to what could and couldn't go into the old building (because the council didn't want any more 'business' taking out of the town centre) seems ironic now that businesses like the co-op are going under but people like debenhams can build outside of the main tc and next can expand in the same place and close their tc branch. So if the council don't want yet another derelict useless building on their patch they need to work to get someone in there

When the new store opened the bigwigs from our head office told us that we would lose £x of our takings initially then when the novelty had worn off this would stabilise to a £y loss each week. This was apparently 'the model'.
I told them that whilst we might lose £x initially we would eventually gain.
When they asked why I told them after 20 odd years of working with the people of Chesterfield I knew we don't follow national trends and we wouldn't like such a huge store.
They scoffed.
Guess who was right!!

I thought I saw notice of a planning application in this week's DT for a car showroom in the old Tesco.

A quick trawl of CBC's planning system says that Arnold Clarke autos were granted conditional planning permission in July 2014 to build a car showroom, service and MOT bay. They now appear to have re-submitted the same application. Can only presume that they are trying to get some of the conditions removed. I'd hope that CBC in conjunction with DCC will ask for a slip road straight on to the bypass for those travelling South. But given how sensible that would be I won't hold my breath!!

You mean off Meltham Lane where traffic on the A61 is accelerating from 30 to 50mph?
-
Thought that myself Dave, can't see that much wrong with the layout as it is. There'll be less traffic too as it's not a superstore.
-
No worse than them trying to get onto the roundabout not under light control

Always think the old store was better a lot easier to find things the new store is just too big . Prefare the ASDA store to be honest.
I agree with that NicheUK. The old store was very handy for nipping in on the way to work too. You could be in and out in 5 minutes. Not so with the new one. It's a complete excursion now. Not that it bothers me any more of course, but I'm just observing that some of the convenience is lost.

Here you go, no technical names, just 'Chesterfield Cycle Centre'.
