I.m not sure Pete, looking at my uncle he looks maybe 11 or 12 years old and he died last year I think in his late 70's early 80's.
However I will ask my aunt his sister as I don't think it's written on the back of the photograph.

My grandfather remained  in the local Home Guards where I have a paper which states his promotion to Captain, I notice at the top of the letter the address is 28 Gladstone Road Chesterfield.
At some point in his life he was  promoted to Major, not found that info as yet.

The photograph will be during his time with the local Cadets.

@ Pete I spoke to my aunt yesterday and she doesn't think she has a year on her photograph either.
However she says she thinks it will be about 47/48

It could just be an error on the picture but they've written General Montgomery on the photo and he was made a field Marshall in 1944.

It's not my writing JR, so I am unsure about when it was taken, we only have my uncles age to go on and that's a guess.

As a ps JR i reckon it could be my brothers hand writing and he just copied what my mum or dad said, so maybe they did call him General?
