Can't believe I just said that... :-[
We had one of their engineers mend our broken boiler today - after being told by some local plumbing/heating firms that we needed a new one.
Also, we've been told by local "tradesmen" that we needed new radiators because ours have been in the house since Adam were a lad. The BG guy said that they were old, but still in better condition than the flimsy new rads on sale these days - and that flushing the whole system would make our central heating good for another ten years!
TBH, I expected BG to try and sell us new stuff, but they didn't, they just mended our existing - apparently the local lads just want to replace the unit cos it's easy and they make loads more profit than they would mending a broken wrong.

My sisters boiler packed in a couple of weeks back, and was condemned. BG quoted her nearly £4000 for a replacement, straight swap, no work with the rads, etc. A local fitter quoted her £1300. Obviously she went with the local lad, and when he turned up, he told her that when he went to fetch the boiler, the suppliers had but their prices up, but said that he would honour his original quote.
Moral of the tale seems to be always get more than one quote.

I once emailed BG on a Saturday afternoon over an issue.
They phoned me on my mobile the day after to tell me the issue had been sorted :)
Good service.
Transfered to E.On now though for gas.
We now get duel fuel bonuses, direct debit bonuses, paperless billing bonuses etc.
It's all bo**ocks really though :o

@K4. Good advice, always get 2 or more quotes ;)

I am considering moving my care package away from British gas as there is a £50 fee per call out as well as the monthly whereas some of the competitors don't.
