Title: Chesterfield Co-op
Post by: Pete on June 10, 2015, 08:46:57 AM
I am reliably informed that somebody was doing a survey of the property on Monday.

Maybe a prospective buyer?

I do hope it gets used soon - to lose it would be a waste of an iconic building. :(

Unfortunately I don't. Someone who used to work there told my missus he had seen surveyors there.

I can confirm the surveyors were there Monday, Tuesday and this morning. I asked one of them what exactly were they surveying, he would only tell me that indead it was the Coop building and surrounding area. He said he didn't know who his firm were doing the survey for.

A survey taking two and a half days on a building to me would sound like demolition and a re-build. Not a re-vamp.

Iconic building indeed but unfortunately I can't see any retail use for it any more. Judging by the number of shoppers in the food store recently I am surprised that that is still going as well.

The building's problem is it's sheer size, no retailer would want a shop that big now would cost a small fortune to run. Plus their are structure problems with it might end up cheaper to flatten it.
