You're right OC - it was widened. I have photos of the widening in progress.

Here we go...

Jane Kirk posted the first pic showing the changes. Starts with old Knifesmithgate, the road was widened and the veranda built leaving just the Kings Head sticking out into the road.
The next, big, pic shows the old Kings Head being knocked down. The new Kings Head was built with matching veranda - last pic.

They had big fires in them days Pam. Maybe the kitchen?
