Title: The Future?
Post by: who can tell on December 27, 2015, 07:04:45 PM
With all the flooding in Cumbria and North Yorkshire and milder winters becoming the trend its clear climate change is happening much faster than first thought. When seeing the floods in Cumbria I remember when Sheffield was hit hard in 2007 when the Wicker , Attercliffe ,Atlas, Meadowhall were submerged in water the clean up was long and hard even now people here get jumpie if their is a heavy rainfall their has been flood defense built but given the levels of rain we now get much more rain than in 2007 and set to increase. The other knock on effect is food prices will rise as it will get harder to grow food in submerged fields , buildings that get flooded regularly will in time will be damaged beyond repair and no insurance will pay out either .

Bad times to come - already here as you say, but what, if anything can we do about it? Flood defences seem to fail in places which have already had substantial investment. Climate change in my opinion is not immediately reversible so the problem is not going away anytime soon. So Cumbria and North Yorkshire will continue to suffer it seems without a resolution to this problem - after all we have not solved it thus far.

Their no easy answers to best deal with such drastic climate change . Most counties like China drag their feet over it. Sheffield had in its past heavy industries that filled the air with junk but when most of the works closed the air cleaned up in time things can be done but no one wants to do it .

Some would tell us it's part of Global Warming or El Nino.
The fact is nothing stays the same including our weather.
We can only fight the elements to a certain degree - the forces of the weather is so much stronger than we are.

The Government need to dig deep into the pot and take advice from those that know best how to put in defences against the flood areas - Only they don't really want to dig as deep as is needed.

Our planet won't survive for ever and there will come a time when population is no more - but not in our life time

'We' the people on this planet are the ones killing it
