Just passed the Longedge Lane turn off - left hand side.
They was a digger in the field, - not more houses is it???

Travelling toward, or away from town ?

Away from town - there's a gap in the hedge with a platform of sorts to allow heavy vehicles in to the field over the pavement. I saw it in the dark though - OC correct me if I'm wrong!
By the way I can't see any planning applications for that site?

Yes that's right scimitar, I could get a proper look as lower down than you and I was driving - but yes big machinery digging.
I really hope they are not going to build on it - fingers crossed !

Actually if you cast your eyes lower down the field there is already work going on down there.
I noticed it this morning

I also noticed further up that there is a public footpath sign that is also metal fenced off ??

Work has been ongoing for some time now on cleaning up the Avenue site. I think part of the plan involved building some flood prevention into the scheme. Last week I noticed (from the site of the old locoshed) a considerable lagoon upstream of the closed public footpath which leads up to Hasland Green. Long term, I think I read there will be some housing as well as warehousing.

Many many years ago when it was all sort of starting i was playing cricket for Clay Cross CC and as part of the plans we were offered a chunk of the land as a new cricket ground. Apparently the plan was to leave some as a nature reserve, some was going to be housing and then there was a bit that couldnt be built on so they suggested a sports area. We never went ahead with it and instead developed a 2nd ground at the current place in behind Sharley Park...probably a good job we did as we'd still be waiting for it and this must have been over 10years ago if not more.

Welcome to the forum redadmiral.
I have noticed the work is very far back leading towards Hasland and I had wondered about the footpath - but didn't think they could actually close it?
bransoj I had heard way back when they announced plans for building that there would be a nature reserve as well, so am now wondering if this is the area where it will be.
I can't imagine Birdholme farm owners would be too pleased with housing right up to their border?

There is this online that gives a rough outline of what is going where.....Derby Rd is running across the top.

The footpath has been closed for a couple of years at least I think. The nature reserve is Avenue Washlands which is topside the Avenue between Mill Lane and Tupton and I think is on both sides of the railway.

Thanks for the link bransoj - I will have a look at that. (y)
Yes there is the Avenue Washlands nature Trial redadmiral we walk around there, I thought there was to be another park area though around the Avenue coking development.
Maybe bransoj's link will enlighten us. ;)

I haven't been ignoring this thread - just taken so long to try and fine what I was asking - I was at the point of calling for HELP , but think link is maybe the one which explains it.
If I read it correctly the land nearest the Birdholme Farm will be green and not buildings?
