Been to see my parents at Newbold today on my way back went past the Abacus pub . A guy stopped me and asked when did the pub open has he had a delivery for them ? I said I didn't know as I never been in but I noticed the glass notice boards were coved in circus ads not pub ads anyone know?

According to the Derbyshire Times website the company who owned Abacus who were based in Plymouth have gone bust.
-
Seems your right WCT. Theres been a sign attached to the pub for weeks now which I thought was strange because I thought it was a popular pub & maybe they were renting other space in the building.
Obviously not!
-
Where is it?
-
Old County Court, end of Vicar Lane, just down from the spire on St Mary's gate.
-
Thanks Fly. I know it now, daughter used to go in there frequently for lunch with her friend.
-
That day I got stopped by that guy it looked like he was trying to deliver beer has I saw the side door open and you could see the steel barrels inside. The Abacus must have closed sudden and no one canceled out the orders oddly what I could see though the windows the bar area was lit up!

Just love the DT headline.
"Large Chesterfield bar plunges into liquidation"
-
Is that the one that used to be Barracuda?
-
That's the one Gerty (y)

The annual rent for the bar is 79.000 pounds a year no wonder the company couldn't make it pay! It will be interesting to see what happens to it will it reopen or be converted to something else its in a prime spot.

Off topic but the Chesterfield Hotel could well end up been a Crown property . The Derbyshire Times have a article saying a Spanish director has resigned leaving only one shareholder if nothing is done the hotel could be handed over to the State its all getting very interesting in Chesterfield!

It doesn't look very hopeful for the hotel does it? :(

What a shame I had hope that the Chesterfield hotel would be transformed into a place for vulnerable people to go. I never was sure exactly what this would be but was a least hopeful it would be kept going.
Hopefully someone else will come along and take over the venture planned.

The To Let sign has been removed as I was in town went for a noisy. Will it reopen or be turned into something else?

Theirs been a more recent article in the Derbyshire Times about the Chesterfield Hotel. The windows are all boarded up and someone left a sofa aside of the hotel looks a right messs. Iv not been down that part of town for years only went in the hotel once its a funny place really motorway one side easy access to the station the other. The longer its left the more it will cost to repair.

Anyone heard anything about the Abacus pub any plans for it ?
-
Hubby says he's read it has been taken off the market but nothing else is known
-
The abacus (York house) will re open as a new venture in June/July under private ownership for the first time, no pub chain and no sports. This is the best venue in Chesterfield due to its interior height like canal/industrial establishment bars in big city's. I think it will do well properly managed and free house.

Good luck to them (y)

It sounds promising my daughter used to sometimes go in there with her friend for lunch as it was accessible with lift/accessible toilet and they enjoyed the food.
I will watch this space for when it opens :)
