Title: llamas camel and zebra at New Whittington
Post by: hifimad on August 30, 2019, 04:47:20 PM
llamas camel and zebra at New Whittington, i went to Peter Jollies Circus last night and was quite surprised they had llamas even though they were not shown on the posters, for the last few years the in thing animal wise was unicorns and this year it seems to be llamas (at least they exist) as well as horses miniature ponys and other animals, so anyone out there with llama obsessed kids or grand kids the circus is well worth a visit.

Llamas camels and zebras oh my!!

I was given to understand "animal" circuses had been phased out as they were no longer P.C.
O.k. you can argue they are travelling zoos providing a public service, but animals in zoos and for the better part wildlife parks don't make their animals perform. That's not to say zoos and wildlife parks are any better, "wild" animals should be in their natural habitat, not caged for the public's amusement.

I've never been a fan of circus's with certain animals. Very limited space for the animals for most of the time.
Zoo's, (the bigger ones), are a different thing. Plus a lot of them are part of breeding programs for some of the animals.

As a child no doubt I would have enjoyed visiting the Circus but not now.

These days I don't think it is the place for large animals who would normally be out in the wild. It must be a living nightmare for them.

Wild life parks as long as the animals are in appropriate sized surroundings I can tolerate and yes they are used for breeding and so keeps any animals from hopefully becoming extinct.

I saw a poster it may have been in Clay Cross or on facebook asking people to boycott the zoo.

i must admit i have held the view that animals should not be in the circus, however when i heard the gasps of delight from the kids in the audience it did make me think, a lot of these kids will have never seen a zebra or a camel or indeed real llamas, i remember going to billy smarts circus in the early sixties and being very exited at seeing performing polar bears so i am now on the fence a little bit.
