Title: If you are buying chestnuts beware
Post by: hifimad on November 21, 2019, 06:26:43 PM
Today i bought a pound of chestnuts from the market (opposite M&S) for £2, so far out of 8 chestnuts only one was edible the others were rotten or mouldy it is clear they had been water damaged, a lot left in the bag are springy when you press them which we have found tend to be mouldy ones, i will not be buying chestnuts from the market again this year, i intend to buy them loose from a supermarket when i can press them and inspect them closely, perhaps i am partly at fault as i saw some on the display had traces of mould on the wide end of the chestnuts and i should have walked away.

i would suspect you would still have the same problem due to the constant wet weather we have been having recently, the chestnuts i bought were chinese and if i understand it correctly the wholesalers for fruit and veg are in south yorkshire which leads me to suspect they may have been flood damaged.
