There's a big old house on Sheffield Road, opposite the old bus depot, and down a bit towards town. It's been unoccupied for a number of years and now it's having a lot of renovation work done. It's a fascinating place with some massive white doors to the right of the building. The doors look as though they are big enough to let horse drawn carriages through.
Does anyone know of this house, and the history of it? I'd love to know :D

Me too, just out of pure curiosity. Perhaps JR or Mycul could help ?

I couldn't find out anything about the house, but I can confirm it's being turned into flats.

Why doesn't that surprise me? Thanks anyway Pete. :D

Well, I drove past today and it's grown massively. Looks good too.
Apparently it's ready to let out.

Managed to delve into the records at the History society last week.
The house is called Leeds House. The owner in 2004 said that the house had once been a hostel for coach passengers in the 18th Century. The Bristol to Leeds route used to stop there, he claimed they passed by at the rear of the house. These pics were taken in 2004. It looks a bit different now, though it's looks like they have done a good job. :)

You can't imagine the history or the past tales of these buildings can you?
Fascinating stuff.
It must have been a major transport route at some time in the past.
Ironic that Stagecoach (my employers) depot is opposite ;)
