Despite the site crashing, I managed to get one.
New toy! ;D
-
Love this bit,
For up-to-the-minute news on what's happening, follow @Raspberry_Pi on Twitter.
(Only until about 6pm GMT, though, because we’re all going to the pub after that!)
-
LOL,
says on my homepage that they are knocking them out for £22.00
-
Plus VAT of course :)
Sold out already...
-
After a bit of fannying about I should get mine next week. Apparently one online store was taking 800 hits a minute as folks tried to buy one. :o
-
Bet you get your case before the Pi ::)
-
<cough>Pardon/</cough>
-
Royal Mail mate, useless. I'll post another one out ASAP ;)
-
You just can't get good service these days... :P
-
I've moved the thread to the relevant board ;)
Right, a friend of mine gave me a Raspberry Pi today.
I'm sure he'll post if he so wishes ;)
Power supply, FAIL. But I can sort that out :)
USB Keyboard. FAIL. See my other post ;)
HDMI cable and Monitor. Part FAIL :(
Cable. FAIL. See my other post :(
Flat screen TV in bedroom, HDMI compatible ;)
SD memory card, Yup got a spare 2GB. Software install 1.90GB :o
Might need a bigger SD card :(
Installing the freely available Linux Software to the SD card.
Total FAIL !!
Two hours later, I got the software installed on the SD card :)
I can't try it yet, I still need the power supply, a keyboard and an HDMI cable LOL

Watch this space for future
developments FAILS... :)

Watch this space for future developments.
I've set myself one challenge.
What narks me is the fact they promoted this as a building block for schools.
Well I'm sorry. I hope the teachers in the schools have my compassion and dedication to computers.
Can use DOS and Disk Management within windows.
Otherwise it's the biggest cheap hyped gadget that's ever been produced.
-
Sure its not just you?

I can only speak for myself.
I've got a mission. I''m on it ;)
-
You'll do it matey - just keep at it.
Looking forward to seeing it work. :)

Sorted the power supply, bought an HDMI cable.
Installed the Debian6 OS from a R-Pi site to a 2GB SD card.
No keyboard yet, but thought I'd try it out.
Loads of errors.
So when I get a keyboard, where do I go from here.
Yes I'm googling as well as posting on here. I hope other Pi users can share their findings.
In the meantime, I'll try re-installing the software to the SD card.
I need a keyboard like Friday daytime please, Pete, Simon ?
-
Nearly there mate - keep at it. :)
-
Here you go ;)

For those of you 'not geek types', the raspberry pi is the little board bottom left :)
-
Some right downsides to it though.
The type B board has 2 USB ports. Keyboard, mouse.
You need the keyboard to login before you can start the GUI.
You need the mouse to navigate it.
If you're using a USB hub, it must have it's own power source.
My 4 port hub isn't and the R-pi won't recognise anything plugged into it.
I can't actually see me doing anything further with it, but it's definately got scope.
Will play with it for a few days and post a few more shots ;)

I tried deleting the partitions off my SD card, so I can try onother OS.
Using DISKPART I kept getting this message:
DISKPART CANNOT DELETE VOLUMES ON REMOVABLE MEDIA
Here's a solution:
Use the command CLEAN instead of whats stated in number 5 below.
1) Type "DISKPART" from the Command Prompt (accessible by clicking on Start and then typing "cmd" into the open field); you will then see the following prompt: DISKPART>
2) Type "LIST DISK" to see what number your USB drive is listed as.
3) Type "SELECT DISK 2" (if your USB is disk 2; replace # with your disk #); Diskpart will confirm that "Disk 2 is now the select disk."
4) Type "SELECT PARTITION 1" (this command selects what should be the only partition on your USB drive, the small one that you want to delete to get back the larger, full partition size). Diskpart will confirm with "Partition 1 is now the selected partition."
5) Type "DELETE PARTITION". This will delete the old partition. There are no warning prompts if you have existing data - make sure you have copied everything off before doing this!
6) Type "CREATE PARTITION PRIMARY" to create a new, full-size partition. Diskpart will confirm with message of "Diskpart succeeded in creating the specified partition." You can type in "LIST PARTITION" to confirm the new, full-size.
7) Type "EXIT" to leave Diskpart. You can now format your USB drive by using the standard Windows formatting process.

Tried the Fedora OS.
Can't get past the login screen LOL

In answer to ChesterfieldChris in another thread.
Sorry for the late reply ;)
I'm not 'into' streaming media etc. I had to google XBMC :)
I consider myself to be on an ever increasing learning curve.
I've certainly learnt a lot about SD cards and Linux installs. And how to regain lost storage space on removable media :)
What did me with the R-Pi is that you need support from someone else to get it to do anything,
unless you are totally proficient with creating your own Linux distro, which I ain't :)
If you read some of the pages of my website, http://www.taxmania.talktalk.net/elecs.html (http://www.taxmania.talktalk.net/elecs.html)
you'll understand why I decided to give the R-Pi a go.
I wondered if it would be easier to control some of my previous projects with a R-Pi.
The answer is no for me, all my previous projects can now be controlled via BlueTooth from my mobile phone.
I just never updated every webpage ;)
Having a Basic programming language on my windows based mobile phone has given me the opportunity to do just about anything 'I' may want to do.
My projects are my work, my time, my coding.
The emails I get from people worldwide is brill.
The R-Pi is a wonderful bit of kit, it's uses are probably endless, but it's not for me.
Hence it's being returned to it's original owner, with power supply and HDMI cable.
Edit: Plus I'm probably the first person in the Chesterfield area to actually show one online working 8)
I'm a geek, I know :o

They are fetching £60+ on Ebay now.
Do you want to pay that sort of money given the review I've given it ?
I reckon this one is worth £100, with HDMI cable, 2GB SD card, Debian6 OS, and a suitable power supply.
But it's not my sale. Ask The owner. Pete.
I've put it all to bed now. Not my bag. :o

@Pete's PM.
HDMI cable, £4.99
USB plug, £1
Nokia power supply, £nill.
SD card £2.40 - Just bought a 4GB for it ;)
Taxi fare £9.80 :o
Call it a tenner in total and stop bugging me.
Plus I'm probably the first person in the Chesterfield area to actually show one online working
I'm a geek, I know
There's a lot of crap about the Pi needing a good 5v supply.
There's also talk on the official PI website is that it will happily run on 4 AA batteries. That's 6V.
The Nokia I used is 5.7v, no shit there Sherlock ;)

Second thoughts Pete. Call it £15, give it the admins towards the hosting of the forum ;D
