This image was added using the 'Insert Image' button in the post editor.
It points to a picture on the web, my website actually.
The code looks like this. I've starred out the word img
[***]http://www.taxmania.talktalk.net/greetings.GIF[/***]

The image below is 'added' using the 'Attachments' at the bottom of the post editor.
Just like what Alsatian did above.
This let's you upload pictures/images directly from your computer without using a website/photobucket etc
Not actually sure if this is a good or bad thing.

I think it's a good thing - 'cos I couldn't do it on t'other forum (go wash my mouth out!)

I was thinking more on the forum bandwidth etc.

Don't worry about it - we will have unlimited storage and unlimited bandwidth on the new server. :)
