Interesting article in the DT this week. They seem quite pleased with the fact that only 1/4 or the pubs 'tested' in the Town Centre were caught serving under age drinkers?
Isn't 1/4 still far too many?

So for every 100 drinkers, 25 should not be there then.
Makes me laugh as a bus driver when kids get on bus all dressed up , claim their discount on bus fare with B-Line discount card (discounted fare), obviously going in to town for a drink.
Personally I think B-Line card discount should finish after about 5pm, after all if they want to do adult things, like drinking and smoking,(cant present a B-Line card to get discount on booze or fags), then pay full bus adult fare.
Its tantamount to them going in to Bargain Booze and getting it half price.

Same here, but used to go with my mums sister and hubby or my boyfriend I would be 17 yrs though so not too far off the age limit. Back then babycham, or cherry B was my tipple -- yuk!

I was an underage drinker too - mainly the odd bottle of 'Double Diamond'! The difference in those days was that we didn't get bladdered and then knock seven bells out of everyone!

So in the one quarter of pubs ,the "guilty" ones could theoretically have up to many more than 25 out of 100 under age drinkers in.

Theoretically, 100% of pubs/clubs could and probably would be filled with 100% underage drinkers.
Only went to the Bradbury Club once. Walked in, bought a drink, turned round, and walked out.

When we were 17 years old we were rarely questioned about our age, and even then they tended to take you at your word if you did a quick recalc of your date of birth

Can remember buying my first illegal drink. it was in the Corner House (top of Glumangate where thai restaurant is now). I was with two lads same age as me. As I apparently looked the oldest, I was persuaded to go to the bar and buy the drinks. I was 16. I went to the bar and proudly asked "3 pints of beer please"
Then it got complicated. Which beer would you like? You ask by brand, ie Stones, Mansfield,Wards,etc.
Felt such a pillock, but got away with it.

We were taught mental arithmetic in the old days, unlike some today who can't add 2 numbers without a calculator

How many pennies in a pound (pre 1971)
12 pence to a shilling.
20 shillings to a pound.
A guinea - 21 shillings- ie £1.05p.
A penny, half penny,farthing, threepenny bit,sixpence,shilling,two shilling,ten bob note,pound note, etc.

When my daughter was at school I totally refused to let her learn her times table the way school wanted her to as to me it would be more difficult to recall them when needed.
The school wanted pupils to learn by saying 3, 6, 9. 12 etc I said no! I learned daughter my way which is 1x3 is 3, 2x3 are 6 --- etc. To me what good is it when asked what's 7 x 8's ? ok easy my way but the schools way ??? how are pupils expected to do that in a second?? Or do others think differently?? :-\

You mean Groats. What about the Guinea?
If you remember groats you are from somewhere between 14th & 17th century - silver coin worth about 4 pennies.

Yesterday some cars were vandalised in Staveley (including a relative's) the cuprit was a 15 year old girl who was drunk. I think most of us on here will admit to drinking pre-18 but there is a big difference between having a few drinks and a laugh at 17 to this sort of thing.

Went to New Zealand to see middle brother.
Not got used to standing upsides down yet.
