Title: "Gorgeous" George Wins Bradford Seat
Post by: Pete on March 30, 2012, 07:45:35 PM
If there's anyone other than Dennis Skinner I can listen to these days, it has to be George Galloway.

Last night he hammered Labour in the Bradford West byelection:

"Harriet Harman, the deputy Labour party leader, has admitted the result of the Bradford West byelection was "very bad" for Labour.

Labour's shocked candidate Imran Hussain was crushed by a 36.59% swing from Labour to Respect that saw George Galloway take the seat with a majority of 10,140 on a turnout of just over 50%."

What I heard on the radio today, the people of Bradford don't want him.
That's why he got egged today.

??? So who voted for him. LMAO  ;)

Just for the record, Skinner never stooped so low to appear in a tv reality show.

>> the people of Bradford don't want him.

You mean the establishment don't want him, maybe because he's anti-war?

He had a majority of 10,140 votes - not enough for you?

My comment was a question. The guy I heard on the radio didn't want him.
Obviously those that can't be bothered to vote, think slagging him off on local radio is the way to go.

That's not the opinion of the majority of voters.
Personally I think he's a *nob head. But that's my personal opinion.

Just for the record I thought he was hilarious, not afraid to have the piss taken out of him - and game to join in the fun.

Here's a bunch of quotes from this mornings papers that grabbed my attention.

"A 5,000 Labour majority was transformed into a 10,000 majority for Respect – the same total vote for me as the outgoing MP had in a general election – winning across every ward in the constituency."

"By 2020 half the population will be under 25. They have grown up in the years when Tony Blair and his successors murdered the real Labour tradition, taking for granted the loyalty of working people – nowhere more so than in this city, where the precursor to the Labour party, the Independent Labour party, was founded in 1893."

"A rotten combination of complacency, incompetence, opportunism and rule by clique has presided over Bradford's decline. It was going down even during the 13 years of New Labour government, which included the richest decade in British history. Now it is in danger of sinking under the sado-monetarist austerity of the Con-Dem coalition."

"Labour, above all, should learn this rude lesson. It cannot continue on the disastrous path set by Tony Blair, of war and occupation abroad and inequality at home."

I'd vote for that.

You would but a majority of the public wouldnt which is why Blair dragged 'New' Labour to the centre.

This one from the Daily Mail seems to back up my personal thoughts:

We're sick of the lot of you: Disgusted voters give ALL three 'out of touch' party leaders the worst poll ratings in history

Voters are so disgusted with politics that the three main party leaders are collectively the least popular in the history of polling.

A survey yesterday put the negative ratings of David Cameron, Nick Clegg and Ed Miliband at the lowest cumulative rating, a staggering -121 per cent.

I doubt even Greggs would vote for them.

I don't think Greggs has supported anyone since John Prescott...

and if there was a general election tomorrow 26 million of us would go out and vote for a party led by one of them.
The death of the current political system has been forecast many times but won't happen whilst the vested interests are in charge.

Politicians full stop.
You simply do not know who you can trust anymore.
Certainly no political manifesto appears to be carried through after they are elected.
Is it any wonder then that fewer people turn out to vote. Of course not because they might know what they are voting for, but have no confidence that it can be delivered.
It sometimes make me wish, and I know this sounds daft, that our Military would take over.
Law and Order - sorted. Defence - sorted-get us out of where we should not be, and get an aircraft carrier before the Argies kick off again over the Falklands. Cos they will, and we cant get there with any planes anymore - no harriers, only long range refuelling flights, which means by the time they get there they are knackered.
I know Thatcher pulled it off over the Argies, and we were in a similar recession at the time,  but we won a war, on our own. Like when did we do that last? We could not do it know, we dont have the capabilities.
Galloway does not like wars. I don't like Galloway. I however do not like wars either.
Galloway says the right things at the right times to get elected. He's an eloquent man who will hold himself up brilliantly in any TV interview, but he's as untrostworthy as the rest of them.
Bit long winded - sorry- off this week and had a drinky - poo ;)

Good post Scimi,
I can't stand Galloway either, self-obsesive, attention seeker. But he does make valid points. As I do too, lol. I've been saying since Blair that minority parties will start to boom because the main stream parties are so out of touch with normal people. I've mentioned many times the time that Brown slagged off one of his supporters who dared to question his immigration policies during the election, but Cameron makes Brown look like the bloke down the road.
The likes of BNP and UKIP will benefit from this, which I don't want, but we need to change the current corrupt and useless system, and no one seems to know how.

Gorgeous George does...

I think I'd vote for him. :)
