We'd been there over ten years and even though we bought out the competition in the town centre last year, we had planned on keeping the shop running, we are mid way through a six year lease...

There are a few objections I've seen, namely around the proposed location of the new loading bay and associated noise etc.. Who knows what sort of impact they'll have. A few promises from Lidl regarding times etc and I reckon it'll get passed, I'm sure Lidl made enquiries prior to spending the hundreds of thousands they did in buying the properties they plan on demolishing..

I believe that Lidl are expanding the shop (bakery section), encroaching onto the existing carpark, hence needing more space for carparking.

They actually wanted the whole row of shops, from the hairdressers through to the Led light shop around the corner on Avenue Road. The chemist refused to sell, the dentist considered it but couldn't find alternative premises and our landlord sold us to Lidl (Party shop, Hairdressers)

If Lidl hadn't bought the buildings then I know that both businesses would still be in situ. Both have relocated, one further up Sheffield Road, and one (us) have merged into their larger shop in the town centre.

I tried that argument alas they were having none of it!

I even parked further up the road thinking that was a separate area but even though its a different bay and on the opposite side of the road it's still classed as the same "area"

and it's sill bloody there...

The galling thing is I've had a parking ticket for overstaying the 1hr outside the shop but this guys been there for 3 hours and bugger all is done

Can't we have a "dial - a - enforcement officer" hotline?!

and just to illustrate my point, outside our shop, parked on the pavement. Parked there simply to "get around" the 1hr parking restrictions that are in force on the actual road.

I've asked a traffic warden who reckoned they had to witness them driving over the kerb....ffs

The main problem with Whittington Moor roundabout are the drivers who dont seem to understand what the lanes or indeed the white lined sections near the centre are for!

It's about bloody time something was done about people parking on pavements, sometimes it seems that half of Whittington Moors paths have been converted into a carpark!

Seems the planning application has gone in for the new Aldi supermarket on the land near Tesco. Looks larger than I expected, building and carpark takes up ALL of the land available.

The lights are far better than the mini roundabout was...

Perhaps its more about moving the bus stop??

You didn't :)

It wouldn't be sensible to compete directly with a huge chain, so I guess you do something to differentiate yourself from the crowd and from what I have seen the Galleon aims to be on the high end when it comes to quality of the food, service and overall experience :)

(and just to be clear I have no affiliation or interest in the Galleon whatsoever... I have been inside though and it's certainly been very nicely renovated)

Every restaurant will have its target audience I guess :)

From what I have heard from people who have been recently, Soulville has more to worry about than their prices..

To be fair the I'm not sure you can compare the food served at The Galleon with a Wetherspoons chain.

Certainly is open :)

Perhaps the entrance is via the double doors on the side of the building. :)
