Chesterfield Discussion / Re: Petrol prices in Chesterfield

Sainsburys petrol at Crystal peaks today cars were lined up at the pumps and I didn't realise till tonight the significance of it, the Iran war and petrol prices.

Went past Morrisons at Halfway on the way back and the fuel was £126:9p. I bet it won't be that tomorrow, I'll have to get some before it runs out.

No doubt toilet rolls will be next.....remember that!!

So Trump is now kicking the cr*p out of Iran, it's all right for him he doesn't have to live next door.

Getting rid of a bad regime is not a bad thing but as recent history has proven it leaves a void that usually gets filled by someone ten times worse, ISIS for example will no doubt fill the void then we're back to square one.

Plus we will end up taking in Iranian refugees.

One of those new bins will just fit nicely into a ginormous pothole just on the entrance to our estate.

I can't understand why it's still there, it's one of those that's so deep hitting that would fetch your tyre off, and the laughable thing is the number of council vans using that road daily to get on and off the estate you'd think something would have been done.

The Council hasn't any excuse, I looked on Google maps for that stretch of road and using the "see earlier dates" went back as far as 2009 for the same stretch and apart from a couple of small holes here and there it's never been this bad.

Chesterfield Discussion / Re: Tesco Chesterfield Town centre

Yes O.C. I went to town the day after it opened and found that Tesco was using up LESS than 30% of the whole building, it's the equivalent of living in a 3 bedroomed house and just using 1 room, it doesn't look very welcoming with two "derelict properties" either side. The only upside is the druggies and drunks don't have far to go now to shoplift.

I notice that once again Eyres old store and now the old Wilko store are being lined up for flat conversion, they may as well as no "sane" company would open a store in Chesterfield.

When I read the Tesco was moving to M&S empty building I was under the impression they were expanding and taking the whole building ? But I'm told that's not correct - they just have a small part of it?
What's that all about

It's not the council's idea.  It's a government directive.

Correct but I'm sure the Government could find more pressing things to spend money on at this current time

Tupton History Society
Our last meeting is next Tuesday at 7pm
Gary Whitmore our speaker has emailed me wheat we can expect on this night. It's very impressive and I'm sure very interesting so come along and bring your own recollections of times in the mines or working for the coal board.

A message to you from Gary Whitmore  below.

WMRG mine explorer/researcher/historian Dave Woolam will also join me. He has done some mining history presentations in the past. Our talk will be quite informal… some slides, videos, pictures and I can take you through some abandonment plans of Tupton.
We will  also be bringing lots of different artefacts. I will bring some bits I have relating to Clay Cross Company.
We would love for the evening to be quite interactive, audience participation, stories etc
