Repairing potholes is a job recreation excersise...they are not done very well, so that they can be fixed again, and again. If they were repaired properly, they wouldnt have any jobs the next year

Apparently there's a new piece of kit on the Gov. site telling you how your local authority is doing regarding fixing {or not fixing} potholes.

Just had a quick look at the map and the areas are in GREEN...AMBER...or RED, no need to tell you what colour round here is.
I know two wrongs don't make a right but again we visited Huthwaite/Sutton in Ashfield a few days ago and I can honestly say their roads ARE in a worse condition than ours, so spare a thought for those poor s*ds. Local authorities still find it cheaper to pay drivers claims for damaged cars than to repair the roads, this is obviously due to drivers putting in claims managing to win!!

The government obviously don't want to spend on road maintenance that's a given, yet I heard the other day there's plans afoot to REBUILD the M1 motorway as it's no longer fit for purpose, speaking as someone who has been using motorways for well over 50 years my opinion is that the M1 has not been fit for purpose since the late 70's.

We have 2026 traffic driving about on 1960's roads..... it can't be put any clearer than that.

General Discussion / A bit of a quandary

Having been to a funeral today, the service ended with the usual donations box put near the exit this one in aid of Ashgate Hospice.

Prior to going I had perused this week's D.T. In it was the ongoing saga of the state of Ashgate hospice's finances and the fact good staff are being laid off whilst board members collect in excess of £60 + grand a year {with one on over £100 grand} and I had initially made up my mind not to donate.
Unfortunately this put me in a bit of a quandary, do I walk past the box like a tight ar*e or do I donate not knowing if it will get where it's going, needless to say I donated but it was through clenched teeth.

Just makes you wonder if any of the other donations over the years helped or just lined pockets, I give to charities via their boxes but I'm afraid Ashgate Hospice is now well down the pecking order... which is a shame.

It's been freezing hasn't it! I can't stand it so cold.
My asthma doesn't like it cold but neither does it like it too warm with central heating so I can't win.
We've had daughter and her kitten here since NYE because of the pending snow which hopefully now looks as if it won't come here. Were down for sleet instead fingers crossed.
A better day today thank goodness!!
Happy New Year!

It's been rubbish hasn't it. I use the TV guide on TV.
We watched the Titanic documentary with actors speaking of their own experience as if they were actually on the Liner. We have watched documentaries but this was a slightly different take. We still have the last episode to watch.
