Chesterfield Discussion / Re: Market Place

There's been talk in the D.T. about the pot hole situation.

The R.A.C. says Chesterfield is not solving the pot hole problem fast enough {or well enough} Chesterfield Council are hitting back saying they are doing a good job, I know which one I believe!!

Apparently Chesterfield now has the dearest parking charges in Derbyshire, even some of the counties well known tourist spots charge less {and in some cases parking is free}.

Politics / Re: Donald Trump

Looks like things are starting to unravel in La La Land. According to the news shares in Tesla seem to be on the slide and there's a big drop in Tesla sales {and that's in the U.S. alone}

For some reason, that is best known to Trump, he's still blaming Ukraine for the war and can't understand why Zelensky doesn't broker a peace deal with Russia to end it, after all Russia only wants a third of Ukraine plus Crimea so what's the hold up!

I still maintain Trump and Putin have got their heads together and are planning to divide Ukraine up between them, no one in their right mind sees Ukraine as the aggressor.

General Discussion / The Garden
« Last post by Old Cruser on April 22, 2025, 09:55:28 AM »
Our garden is mainly lawn these days with trees around all sides.
I use planters for my flowers and herbs, it's easy maintenance.

During the winter I lost what I'll call a Broom bush when the wind actually uprooted it, despite efforts to settle it back into the ground it's obviously dead!

I've bought another to replace and it will go with the other bushes I have which give good ground cover in that top corner of the garden, and so cut down on garden work, I've bought few bedding plants as well.

I also have an old tin bath which I use for flowers, this is my youngest brothers corner who died in 2014.
The blue bells and other spring flowers are out now giving a smattering of colour.

I'm looking forward to a decent summer!

General Discussion / The Pope
« Last post by Old Cruser on April 22, 2025, 09:43:44 AM »
As you will know the Pope has died. RIP.
He was very ill for a long time and given his age one would assume he wouldn't survive. He was obviously a strong gentleman and managed a brief spell on the balcony not so long ago to say hello to his people.
Even then it was obvious he was gravely ill.
So --- why are some surprised and shocked he has passed?
I'm not Catholic but realise how important this is to the Catholic people. I believe he was the first Pope to recognise Homosexuality was not a crime so good on him for that.
Our news will again be taken over by one news item and everything else pales into significance.

Yes rare rocks and mineral type stuff like blue john stone and stuff like that, I used to look in the window at some of the prices, no wonder they closed, besides I never saw a customer in there.
Also the shop opposite that used to be Greenwoods is obviously planning to re open. I don't know what it's going to open as they've put shutter up on the inside, who knows it may open as a gents outfitters {again}

My guess is another barbers!

Ahhh yes I know the one you mean now - I was thinking of  something with Chesterfield Ghost town running through it!!

General Discussion / Re: Spring has sprung

I have been putting my camera out at nights (when I remember to!) and have had hedgehogs, badgers and cats...great to see them...Oh, and pigeons!

My hibernating hedgehog woke up on 11th April - we were going to Liverpool to a wedding and I had arranged his care with a friend just for the one night we were away. It was too hot in the shed though so we carried down to another indoor area which was cooler. He's gained weight but only outside during the daytime as it's still quite cold at the moment.
I have some visiting Hedgehogs in my garden as well - and yes - pigeons --- ohhh badgers - they are bad news for hedgehogs unfortunately  :(
I've bought a few plants for my tubs today but have herbs in most. I'm not planting outside just yet though as we are down for 15 inches of SNOW :-? ::) :)) - well so the papers tell us!!
