Less than two years into Labour's reign and already there's talk of "off with his head" as they gear up for a leadership race.

The final nail in the coffin, not just for Starmer but the party, will be the day after the budget later this month.
I notice that this year we will be getting our cold weather payment back, all well and good but we are being paid with LAST YEARS money, plus the fact because I'm paying tax on my pensions a good 80% of one of my private pensions will be taken in tax, I will soon be looking for work!!!
I will be very surprised if Labour lasts till the end of their turn at the helm.

General election in the Spring methinks....point is who do you vote for.

General Discussion / Taxi!!
« Last post by Sorastro on November 12, 2025, 01:48:55 PM »
Went out early last week, the 4 of us, for a meal. Obviously booked a taxi there and back as we would be having drinks during the meal.

We were picked up and taken to our destination, upon entering the premises I stopped the other 3 and said "Hands up all those who thought the taxi driver couldn't drive", the answer, in the positive, was unanimous. Imagine our disappointment then to find later, when climbing in the cab, the same driver was taking us home. All I can say about the return trip was it was like a car chase scene from a film, the standard of driving was abysmal.

I don't know how this guy ever passed a test {if indeed he did} it most certainly wasn't an English one, or how he even got a licence to drive a cab, these firms must be desperate for drivers.
I say the above as English was not his first language which I'm finding more and more with taxi drivers, obviously we don't use cabs on a regular basis but when we do it would be nice to know we are in safe hands.

I am not going to mention the company involved but I respectfully suggest they, indeed all, vet their drivers better than they obviously are doing at present.

Looks as if Reeves has escaped by the skin of her teeth.

Starmer can't afford to keep sacking people otherwise there would be no one left.

Listening to them again tonight my stance on this has not changed one iota.

The house four doors up have been letting off fireworks since six o'clock. I put my dustbin out half an hour ago and one of the rockets exploded above me and it's fair to say I felt the "aftershock" right through my body so you would stand no chance if it exploded next to you.

Not the Market area in particular but Chesterfield as a whole.
WHY, do people take their dogs on long leads  around the town
Twice today I've had to dodge a dogs lead whilst the owner was oblivious  that their sweet little pooch was about to wrap its  lead round my legs

Just read the council concerned has quashed the fine.

Hands up all those who thought it was bl**dy stupid.

Saw on the news this morning "Woman fined for pouring coffee down a street drain"

If you didn't see it, she had a cup of coffee in her hand and as her bus approached she poured what little coffee she had heft in the cup down a gully drain and started to run for the bus and was stopped by 3 enforcement officers and they fined her saying what she did was an offence under section 33 of the environment protection act.

Now I could understand their reasoning if she was emptying say an oil drum full of the stuff but it was less than half a cup full, which would have instantly disappeared when it hit the gallons of water in the drain. Of course there's the old argument "Yes but what if everyone did it"?

I defy anyone to tell me coffee would seriously damage or pollute our waterways when water companies are dumping heaven knows what into our rivers and streams.

Yes, that sums it up, it will be decided in meetings and that's the end of
it.
We were in town yesterday, I had my first look at thd Market s
quare.
Tes it looks lovely, less cobbles whjcb us helpful for some but retains thd 'cobbled street look'
More seatjng.
Spacious.
Cleverly designed to detract from the smaller number of stalls.
Or is that an illusion?
Answers on a postcard please just a Yes or No :))

I believe it was a couple of weeks ago in the letters page of the D.T. someone was berating C.C. on the extortionate car parking charges in the town.

Last week's D.T. contained a response from C.C. obviously in answer to this letter, their response can be summed up in a few words:-

"Sod what you lot think we'll do it our way"
