"Many of the victims died inhaling toxic fumes during the rush to escape through the venue's single exit,"

So maybe we shouldn't criticise Heath & Safety standards so much.

Just replied to Slacks similiar comment on FB

Some of them are OTT. Some aren't strict enough.

True, but what civil liberties have been breached by health and safety laws?

Been to the Hobby Horse for a meal this afternoon. Grandson's 2nd birthday party  :)
Step daughter had a sparkler type candle 'number 2',  for the cake. I said they wouldn't let her light it in the building.
Here's the funny bit. They let her.
But the chef was very wary about giving Our_Lass a big kitchen knife to cut the cake  :))
"Can you bring it straight back please." He seriously didn't want it going out of the kitchen.

It's not a question of civil liberties. It's just common sense gone wrong at times. Claim culture.

Back on topic, 1 entrance/exit to a venue with 100's of peeps in it is just plain stupidity as Cchris said  :(

To be honest I don't think I would allow the two examples in pub.

I'm also against the open sales of fireworks for bonfire night. I think bonfire celebrations should be organised and run by experts/fire brigade.

The whole thing reminds me of the dog bites child story - every time it happens, we always hear the same excuses - He's a real softie, never had any trouble with him, He's more likely to lick you to death than bite you, etc etc. And some poor kid gets his face ripped apart.

IMHO

Luckily for the other people in the pub, Our_Lass hadn't had a drink. Big knife, Mags,  ::)

Fireworks, tricky one. I'm adult and would use them in a sensible fashion. 'IF' I bought them, which I don't.
As for the dog, I wouldn't trust one as far as I could throw one.  BUT.
If your getting hit or bit by a 3 year old kid, your going to retaliate.

DON'T LEAVE KIDS AND DOGS TOGETHER UNSUPERVISED. IT'S NOT WORTH THE RISK !

really sad about this fire am wondering what type of fireworks they used?
I bought an indoor firework last year for my granddaughters birthday cake we had the meal at the Smithy pond I phoned and spoke to the manager about using it - he said he thought it would be ok so I told him I would seek him out when I arrived and show it too him - whatever he decided I would be fine with. - We used it and it just went up a short way from the cake - no problems at all.
As for selling fireworks i think it would be a good idea to stop selling them to Jo public - but then I remember my little shoe box where I kept my fireworks pre- bonfire night as a child, with anticipatian of watching my dad light them by our bonfire. I used my spendo each week and we went round penny for the guy.
I then wonder did I really want the children to miss out on this fun leading up to bonfire night. if it means keeping them safe I suppose so (says grudgingly  :( )
Sorry off topic a bit

Totally agree about the dog situation, when we had ours she was as soft as grease with us - but - you always have to bear in mind that they are only one step away from a wild animal and they can turn at any time.

People were always wary of her as she was an alsatian, but. when we were out walking her she was always on a short lead and made to walk between me and a solid object (wall, hedge etc) when we approached someone.

We bought a collie dog for daughter when she was younger he was a soft as a brush - but would let gas/electric metre readers in - but not out  :-? Also if I was walking him alone at night I had to put him on a short lead - as if a male passed me - he wasn't happy  :-? he never did bite anyone though thank goodness. Just his odd ways. Very protective of me bless him  :-*
