Bus Lane question
« on: March 21, 2013, 12:56:14 PM »
Yes it might sound stupid and I think I know the answer but I just want to check.

If you look at this picture to the right hand side, whilst facing St Marys Gate, theres a sign on the post: http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=London+Road,+Sheffield&hl=en&ll=53.372819,-1.476653&spn=0.000026,0.022638&sll=52.8382,-2.327815&sspn=8.020874,23.181152&oq=london+road,+she&hnear=London+Rd,+Sheffield,+South+Yorkshire,+United+Kingdom&t=m&z=16&layer=c&cbll=53.372715,-1.476699&panoid=GfH0_Xp-jSrfTXEOFSTYFw&cbp=12,252.864664,,0,0

It shows buses, taxis, cycles and states 'authorised vehicles'

Does authorised vehicles include the police who are not on emergency calls?  Id assume it doesnt unless on an emergency call.  Can someone agree/correct me?

If Sheffield is like Chesterfield, just ignore the road signs.
Chesterfield has no traffic wardens, just parking officers. They can't ticket you for a motoring offence

Drive where you want  ;D
The police can ticket you though, so be aware  ;)

Sorry but I'm getting confused (nothing new)
I can only see a sign on the left not on the right.
But either way as Fly said only the Police can ticket.
Are they going to ticket one of their own?

I believe that junction (right hand lane) is a bus lane after the traffic lights, so its restricted use in some way. "authorised vehicles" is the bit I don't understand, unless they mean emergency vehicles - if its like Chesterfield, some drivers will ignore the sign and use it anyway.Don't know if CCTV is active in that area though to catch the ones who should not be using it. Try going through the lights in right hand lane on Google Earth - it won't let you. :))

There are a number of bus gate in Sheffield where you do get fined.  I know one of our IT guys got one.  This one however isnt.

The Civil Enforcement Officers (their correct title) can't ticket you for a moving motoring offence or any that carries points but they do check tax discs and will report any they see that are out of date.
