Disabled parking
« on: May 18, 2013, 01:49:15 PM »
Before I start, this is not a criticism of people parking as i don't really know too much about it.

So, where can people who require a blue badge, legally park?  For example, are they allowed to park on double yellow lines, in bus stops or in loading only areas?, all of these I see regularly in Sheffield, even though there are many disabled bays around.

I'm sure most blue badge holders park where they should but there's always some that think they can park wherever they like because they have a blue badge.

As far as I know, they can park on single, or double yellow lines so long as they are not causing an obstruction to other traffic. However they can't park in taxi ranks, loading spaces, or bus stops. It's actually extremely difficult to get a proper result on the internet for this - its all a bit vague.
I'm surprised how difficult it is to get the correct information on this one - so theres no surprise that they park where they do >:(

"I didn't realise I couldn't park there", "My wife's blind", "My husband's disabled", "I have a blue badge".
'READ' the T&C of it then for god sake. And get off the bloody taxi rank !!

Chesterfield residents have been given parking permits to use 'Pay And Display {Car Parks}' in town centre.
Loads have had tickets for parking in, {On Street} parking spots. I appreciate most of these were probably genuine mistakes.

I'm sure Scimitar knows exactly what I'm ranting about.
We are both trying to work and give a service to the people of this town.
It isn't helped by inconsiderate or don't give a sh** types who just park where they want, then blame the system.

They can park on yellow lines ,but must observe any parking restrictions ,there is normally a sign on lamposts etc and extra yellow lines on the pavement like these ,they cannot park on clearways that have yellow lines just like everybody else ,to be honest they should park like most people away from bus stops, roads junctions, narrow roads, schools, red routes through city's like London one perk is normally free parking on meter's and some council run car parks ,one example local is Chesterfield Royal Hospital for free parking.

Anyone with a Blue Badge gets a leaflet which tell them where they can and cannot park. I keep mine in the car but must admit I prefer to use the proper car parks.
BB holders can't as someone else has said park if they are obstructing the flow of traffic - some just do because they think they have the right.

I'm with you on that OC, I only use my Sisters' blue badge where absolutely necessary - it angers me too when people abuse the privilege.

I had a woman in Meadowhell Car Park a few weeks ago who was ready to tear a strip off me for parking in a disabled spot. I politely pointed out the M-I-L being wheeled up behind me and she shut up!!!

I had one a while back when a bloke (with a blue badge) was parked in a loading only area at a council office.

What they dont know is that I know all the security staff and also have the number for Parking Services.  Anyway, one of the security lads was outside and the traffic warden came along, checked the badge and was about to walk off when this lad informed the warden the car was in a loading area.  Cue ticket being issued.  Cue unhappy car owner.

Ah well, not as funny as the road rage incident there a few days later, still makes me laugh now.
