US shutdown
« on: October 02, 2013, 12:09:27 PM »
The US Congress has failed to agree a budget by 1 October and a federal government shutdown has begun, sending more than 700,000 federal workers home and closing down national parks, museums, federal buildings and services.

The Republicans would ruin their own country for the sake of party politics.

Bad losers.

Or you could argue that Obama would ruin the country to save his flagship healthcare policy at any price???

Political Dogma again

But, as I see it, Obama's Health care thingy helps folks at the bottom of society who have little or nothing, whilst the Republicans are prepared to a lot of damage when they all probably have good healthcare sorted.

To me its just basic essentials for all if the US are a "civilised" nation. Maybe they're not.

And the republicans would argue that they've already reached their $17 TRILLION debt ceiling and can't afford healthcare on the scale proposed.
We have pretty much the best healthcare system in the world. I'm also pretty sure that if I'd paid on a usage basis for the nhs over my lifetime (or taken out health insurance) rather than through taxation I'd be quids in.

Which is why I am deeply suspicious of the governments attitude to the NHS and what they might do.

Me too, never really been ill in my life - touch wood. But I have this view that a countries health should be made a priority, especially if that country spends billions every year on arms and wars.
