5 cyclists killed in 9 days

Now im sorry if im speaking out of turn here but there are 2 comments in the article which id like to highlight...

"The yet unnamed cyclist, believed to be aged in his 30s, was not wearing a helmet at the time of collision with the route 205 bus, Metropolitan Police said."

and

"But unless people obey the laws of the road and people actively take account of the signals that we put in, there's no amount of traffic engineering that we invest in that is going to save people's lives."

How long is it going to be before cyclists learn and stop constantly blaming drivers?  Yes drivers are to blame for some cyclist accidents but going on the sights I see (almost daily) in Sheffield, im surprised there arent more deaths.

At the bottom there is a brief list of accidents, Lorry, Coach, Bus, Lorry - see the theme here?  Big vehicles that are less likely to see cyclists but yet they still ride down the left side (undertaking?)

I personally have nothing against cyclists, if I know they are there, i wait or give them space, I dont want an accident or death on my conscience.

A few weeks ago I was very close to having an accident on East Bank Road, some traffic was turning right off the main road and I was about to go around when out of nowhere a cyclist came flying down the road.  Id guess his speed to be around 40mph.  Needless to say, if id have turned, he would have hit the car and my guess would be it would have killed him.  He wasnt wearing a helmet either.

Not at all mate - totally agree with you.

My pet hate is them riding on the pavement.

TBH - I'd charge them road tax as well.

I'm sure there's a post about me getting wiped out by a lad on a BMX on the pavement on here.
Some cyclists think they can do what they want outside of the highway code.
