I can never understand why people still pay up front for work done by people they don't know!

Derbyshire Trading Standards would like to raise the awareness of unsolicited telephone calls from traders offering free boiler inspections. However, they are requesting £299 for a Green Deal Assessment.

16 January 2014

Consumers have paid this fee to the traders; however no further contact or assessments have been carried out.

These trader's claiming these assessments are part of the Government Grants on the Green Deal.

This is a warning for the public to be more wary especially with the weather turning colder.

Trading standards advise that you should never give personal details out to anyone who has cold called you by telephone or in person, particularly details relating to bank accounts/credit cards.

If you have concerns over a trader who has cold called you on the phone you can report this to the Citizens Advice Consumer service (CACS). CACS provides free, confidential and impartial advice on consumer issues. Visit www.adviceguide.org.uk (opens in a new window) (opens in a new window) or call the Citizens Advice Consumer Helpline on 08454 04 05 06. Alternatively consumers can contact Action Fraud on 0300 123 2040 or at www.actionfraud.police.uk (opens in a new window) (opens in a new window).
