Which in 2011 was £9.5bn

You missed off VAT which is a further £2.6 billion.

Against that are the billions smoking costs the NHS, emergency services, industry, passive smoking, environmental - estimated at £14 billion p.a.

I stopped 12 years ago, but husband still smokes.  To be fair to him he'll go outside but if I get downwind of his smoke my chest goes tight.  That's the reason I gave up in the first place.

As for walking through the fog to get into pubs and other establishments, I have to hold my breath till I've got through to the other side.  :(
