« on: March 20, 2014, 07:08:00 PM »
What's going on , must be 2-3 weeks now, they have taken the traffic lights out , are they going to put them back in or not?

If you look at the road sides, there are grate looking things visible. I think they're going to pop the traffic lights in once they have completed what ever other work they are wasting their time on. Apart from drop kerbs for the disabled, I really can't see how they can alter how the junction was before.

Can't wait till they start the new roundabout works at the Avenue entrance further up Derby Rd  ;D

I came home past that junction today and it looks as though the changes have been made. Just got to put the lights back.

Been a pain in the bum for a couple of weeks now.
I started out with nothing and I've still got most of it left.

yes its been bad, it just looked like there was nowhere to put them, glad they are going back in.

2-3 weeks for what they have done is a joke really.

Im waiting for the road to come to churchside/grassmoor from derby road,if it ever happens suppose it depends on the 2 farmers who own the fields.

Ja know what winds me up about that junction balb0wa? It's idiots who are coming into town who leave no room for cars coming out of Storforth Lane. They just park in the "yellow box" whilst others in front of them leave huge gaps between cars... If they all kept tight it would halve the time it takes to get out of Storforth Lane.

And why do drivers think a red traffic light means "let another two cars through"?

TBH I think the quality of driving gets worse every year.

Oh yes, i think derby road makes people mad though , its traffic hell, if im going into town now, i go through Hasland and onto the bypass and stay in the left hand lane, i remember doing that when i passed my test when i was 17 back in 1990, a copper on the roundabout told me off, bypass was full, i couldn't get in the right lane, now your allowed to do it. (im sure the copper was causing the chaos back then) :-)

Ive sat eating a maccy d a time or ten parked up near frankie and bennys , the amount of people who jump red lights on the horns bridge roundabout, and the traffic lights at the cinema is a lot.

I'm pleased have raised this balbOwa as I remarked the same to my hubby yesterday morning whilst driving through into town. Had meant to post about it but forgot  :-[ there were 2 lanes heading through towards Wingerworth but not really wide enough if there was a lorry at the side - I was being shove towards a bollard in that right lane and had to stop to let the lorry make the left turn.

As a Coach/Bus driver (in other words a pain in the arse to every car driver), yes, I've noticed that poorer driving standards are regularly observed - lane swapping - poor (if any) use of indicators at roundabouts etc.
Don't get me going, I'll be on here for hours >:(
They seem to have adopted the rule of "He who dares, wins", but at what cost?
A few years ago, I toyed with the idea of becoming a driving instructor, but couldn't afford the fee's (was out of work at the time), but they sent me lots of quizzes to deal with, in stages, and it opened my eyes, because of what I was doing as a driver, as opposed to what I should be doing as a driver.
Then I got a job at Stagecoach - had to pass my driving test all over again (I passed my car driving test originally in 1977), Coach /Bus Theory & test 2005 passed.
I spend roughly between 8 - 9 hours a day on the road, and I despair at what I see, EVERY DAY!
But I'm driving roughly 8 tons, and you won't believe how many cars will still play "chicken" with you even though its my right of way......
Gladly, I've had no accidents - blameworthy or otherwise. Statistically I'm due one though! >:(

scimitar when I was taking driving lessons it was drilled into me to 'give way to the buses' I always do to this day, hard enough job as it is I reckon without wormheads ( sounds better than dickheads  ::) ) playing dodgems with you.

I turned right out of Stoforth Lane this morning. The initial problem is due to the temporary lights not being phased as well as the permanent ones were. It's made worse by traffic backing up to the box junction due the lights being red further along Derby Road though traffic turning right from Stoforth Lane can legitimately stop on the box junction while it clears, then proceed out of the box. It'll improve once the permanent lights return.
