Known information
« on: March 24, 2014, 03:32:16 PM »
I was watching a programme last night and in there was a statement that said there are approximately 1.2m uninsured drivers on Britains roads.  If the DVLA have this number, they must also know who they are and where they live etc.  And lets be right, if they dont have insurance, they probably dont have tax or MOT.

So why not just go around and uplift the car and impound it regardless if its essential or not.  If they can prove they had insurance at the time of the removal, they get the car back and all fees are waived.  If not, charge them as they normally do.  I believe this would bring down the premiums of us that are covered.

Its not rocket science.

1.2m uplifts will keep them busy for a while

And the same sort of applies to this

£5bn in fraudulent claims.  Again, they have the number so they have the information to reach that number which means they also know which areas are claiming for work that was never done or cheaper alternatives used.

Something seriously needs to be done.  In this case, its mine and your money being spent and we really shouldnt stand for it.

And while they're at it, name and shame the lot of them - none of this 'cannot be named for legal reasons' b***ocks

Yes, it pi55es me off too. At the moment (for reasons I won't go in to) I have two cars, one of which I am trying to sell.

It's been in a repair shop for a while and the insurance has lapsed, I had to take out a one day insurance policy (which cost me £25) to collect it and drive it the 2 miles back to my home.

Makes me wonder who'se the idiot/gullible one?  >;

Good post Simon!

My lovely neighbour almost got killed just after Christmas.  He was car sharing with a colleague and coming home from their afternoon shift.  They were coming down Ringwood hill when a Subaru took the bend on the wrong side of the road on the way up, doing about 60mph. Result was head on collision with neighbours car.  Our friends had to be cut out of the car while the Subaru driver walked away unscathed.  Seems he also had a provisional licence and wasn't insured to drive the car (his girlfriends).

Both friends are still off work (both on SSP) and before long will be struggling with just their wives wages. One needs a further operation, and the other keeps having nightmares and flashbacks.

A few years ago I pulled into the old tesco's car park to find police cars and large vans. Seems they were checking insurance etc and taking any away that hadn't got one.
So they should as well make me mad to.

Sorry to hear that Gerty.

Most Subaru drivers IMO are complete wankers.  However, theres one that breaks this rule that Fly knows very well :-)  Roger's been a great help.

I can see the point with insurance. If a car suddenly drops off their database as being insured/taxed then surely someone can nip round to check. Fraud is a little bit different. I think what they do in those cases is look at how much they have found and then assume they've only caught a %age of the offenders.
