Swan and cygnet killed. Wingerworth.
« on: June 27, 2016, 09:26:04 PM »
Apparently a white van slowed down because the birds were in the road, then drove through them after they didn't move for him.
This was around 7.40am this morning.

Any information about the incident, either comment here or PM me and I'll pass it on.

Reply from Streetlife.

It was a green van according to a witness. You can pass information to the Wildlife Crimes Officer on 101. On my Wingerworth Village and surrounding areas Facebook page there are further details.

This is awful news. In my many years as a bus driver going around Wingerworth, I have always kept an eye out for the Swans because they have made it their home for years. The Male (I guess) used to pick a fight with his own reflection on the glass bus stop on Allendayle rd - humorous at the time but not anymore. I'm so angry that this driver could just not wait when everyone else does.
I seriously hope they catch the swine that did this-I too will forward any information on if anyone knows anything about the van driver (anonymously if required) >:(
