You see my point though.  There was a woman ages ago on Look North saying she couldnt afford this and that.  One the wall was a massive flat screen TV and a Sky box underneath.  Priorities eh?

Unfortunately many people who have low incomes or on benefits seem to shop for things which they can't afford - same goes for the plastic cards though Simon, people even with higher paid jobs can't resist using them for buying items they can't afford.
Surprising how many we also see buying the scratch cards - chasing the elusive jackpot I suppose because the have no money.

It's in all walks of life, not just the low paid (may have mentioned before - apologies if so) - when I became a manager at AGD the first question one manager asked me was "when are you buying a bigger house?". Why? My family hasn't suddenly increased, nor have my needs.

So often people need to 'show' their wealth and try to impress others!

Alsatian I learned that from an early age - the people 'with' money were very ordinary (didn't need to speak powsh etc - but the people who 'pretended' they 'had' money thought they were the bees knees -
I once remember a lady asking me if we had any 'batter?' I got very confused (doesn't take much    ) it turns out she was asking for BUTTER! Silly moo!!
