How do you create one of these links?

As an example, Pete posted this link: http://bit.ly/UAQ78R which directs to this: http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/politics/article4751667.ece

How?

Not sure, I use tinyurl for shortcuts which allows you to pick your own abbreviation of unique

I copy the address/url, go to https://bitly.com/ - paste the address into the box and click Shorten. Then you get redirected to another screen with the small address in the middle, click Copy and paste it where you want it. Can be flaky.
I started out with nothing and I've still got most of it left.

I always have probs getting into newspaper links, very annoying at times - it's classed as 'platform'  ::)
