Didn't know these were available so thought I would share it.
Residents living in North East Derbyshire have the chance to pick up free anti-theft number plate screws.
The North East Derbyshire Community Safety Partnership is offering the security devices to local residents following a number of recent number plate thefts.
Over the past two weeks police have received four reports of number plates being stolen from cars in Renishaw, Dronfield, Clay Cross and North Wingfield.
The screws are special ‘one way’ devices which simply replace the standard screws which are fitted to number plates to prevent it from being removed by a thief.
Sergeant Paul Smith of the North East Derbyshire Community Safety Partnership said: “We’re offering these simple devices to local residents to help reduce the potential of number plates being taken by offenders who may switch them onto another vehicle.
“They can then potentially commit crimes such as driving off from petrol forecourts without paying for fuel or are able to avoid speeding or parking penalties but having these fitted will make it much harder for the plates to be stolen.”
The special number plate screws are available from the Safer Neighbourhood policing teams in North East Derbyshire.
